Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is enthusiastic and deeply committed to her role. She makes excellent use of the views of everyone involved with the children and the knowledge she gains, such as from training, to meet each child's needs exceptionally well. She is extremely reflective and identifies how to enhance her practice further. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of how to protect children if she is concerned about their welfare. She precisely monitors children's progress and meticulously plans activities to address any identified gaps so that children make the best possible progress. Highly effective partnerships between parents and other settings children attend help valuable information to be shared to provide continuity in their learning and care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has an excellent knowledge of the different ways children learn and skilfully uses this information during activities. She observes and listens very carefully to children and knows exactly the right time to ask questions or provide comments. She uses this skill excellently to move children on in their thinking and help them to make links in their learning. Children develop an excellent understanding of mathematical concepts and use them freely in their play. They pick vegetables from the garden and count the different pieces, and the childminder joins in asking about shape, size and how many to add to make the total to five. She builds on children's prior knowledge and uses their interests exceptionally well. For example, when preparing fruit snacks in the form of caterpillars she talks about butterflies.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder actively encourages children to do things for themselves so that they develop excellent independence and self-care skills. She constantly follows exemplary hygiene and safety practices. For example, children learn how to handle pets in a safe way and the importance of washing their hands afterwards. Children enjoy excellent opportunities to explore a range of natural materials and everyday objects. They have an inspirational outdoor environment where they explore different natural materials, nature and planting, although these experiences are not as extensively explored as possible by those who prefer playing indoors. Children's physical health and well-being are given a high priority, and fresh air and exercise are continually encouraged.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children gain excellent skills for their future learning, such as in readiness for school. They display high levels of enjoyment and engagement in activities. For example, they talk about different minibeasts as they show each other what they have found outside.
