p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The highest priority is placed on ensuring staff have a thorough understanding of safeguarding issues and are extremely alert to any changes in children's welfare. The nursery manager demonstrates very high expectations of the staff team. She provides effective systems of support and performance management based on incisive monitoring of staff practice. Professional development of the staff team is sharply focused and helps to maintain the exceptional quality of teaching already in place. Managers recognise the importance of continuously striving to find even more ways to enhance the firmly established, outstanding quality of provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The learning environment, inside and outdoors, is exceptional. Children eagerly explore the wide range of innovative resources and thoughtfully presented play areas. Highly effective systems of observation and planning are implemented with outstanding results. High-quality observations, that include information from all involved in the children's learning, are accurately assessed and used to fully inform planning. Staff use their expert knowledge of the children to spontaneously extend activities. For example, children excitedly find a spider in a web. A member of staff matches the children's enthusiasm and asks a wide range of excellently posed questions and expertly models the thinking process. The member of staff skilfully extends children's learning as she suggests they compare the spider with the role play creatures. They engage in a powerful conversation and use excellent communication skills to share their thoughts and ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children receive excellent support from staff who are extremely attentive to their needs and foster their physical well-being. Highly detailed, settling-in procedures help staff to gain a thorough understanding of children's needs. Children settle very quickly and swiftly gain the confidence to explore and learn. Babies enjoy the warm and nurturing approach from staff, while older children greatly respond to staff's high expectations of what children can do. They are independent at every opportunity and relish the small tasks they help to carry out. For example, they have great fun parking the toys after outdoor play and collecting their own plates and cups for snack. Children explore healthy lifestyles through a number of innovative activities. For example, they listen to changes in their heart rate using stethoscopes as they learn the effects of exercise on our bodies.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make excellent progress. Children who have special educational needs receive exemplary support from staff so that they make significant progress in their learning. Children are articulate communicators who listen extremely well and make strong contributions to discussions. Children demonstrate very positive attitudes as they learn to respect each other and show a wonderful interest in the lives of others. Children develop excellent social skills and show confidence in new and social situations. Children learn the skills they need for their future learning and in readiness for school.
