For example, so children can use these as props in their imaginative play, to build on their own experiences.

The childminder regularly assesses for risks in her environment to ensure all areas are safe and is always with the children to maintain their safety. The childminder has good methods to support continuity in children's care. For example, she has regular meetings with parents to discuss their child's development and sends out regular newsletters. She is aware of the importance to work in partnership with other professionals involved in children's care to have a shared approach to supporting their education and childcare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder encourages children's to use their imaginations, such as by moulding playdough to make fruit. She helps children to become confident talkers. The childminder encourages them to listen and skilfully uses their interests to help them act out a story. For example, she helps children to compare their moulded fruit to pictures in a storybook.

The childminder helps children to care and be considerate to each other. She supports them to play well together. For example, she uses praise when older children offer younger children their drinks. The childminder has very strong procedures to help children settle in, which helps to build their confidence. She furthers children's good health effectively. For instance, she takes children on regular outdoor experiences and teaches them good hygiene practices. The childminder helps children to learn about how to remain safe, such as practising with children the procedures to follow in the event of fire.

p.3

All children make good progress in their learning and develop strong skills that help to prepare them for moving on to pre-school or school. Children are very imaginative; for example, they pretend to feed their dolls fruit they have created out of playdough. All children listen and talk well. Older children learn to count and name colours. For example, they talked about the colours of cars as they pushed them on a mat and counted how many they had. Children are confident and emotionally secure.
