This provision is good
The childminder makes good use of her resources and available space to support children's learning and development effectively in most areas. She creates a happy and interesting environment where children are motivated to learn as they play. The childminder teaches well. She develops an understanding of children's individual needs and typically plans activities to challenge and encourage their development. The childminder identifies any gaps in children's learning to ensure they all make good progress. The childminder establishes effective partnerships with parents and other professionals. She shares information about children's well-being and progress regularly. This helps to provide continuity in children's care and learning. Children benefit from a range of activities, such as daily outings, outdoor play and culinary activities, to help them learn about the benefits of exercise and healthy eating.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Very young children are not always able to explore suitable resources to help enhance their sensory development. The childminder does not gather information about what children can do when they join her to help her plan for their future learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play and the childminder's interaction with children, indoors and outdoors. The inspector discussed the activities observed with the childminder. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, accident and medication records, and records of suitability checks. The inspector took into account the comments from parents. The inspector discussed the systems used to review and evaluate the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder identifies and manages safety risks knowledgeably. She has a clear understanding of the action to take if she has concerns for the welfare of a child. The childminder evaluates her practice and takes positive steps to improve. She regularly completes training opportunities and uses what she has learnt to have a very positive impact on the quality of her provision. For example, she has developed her knowledge of healthy eating for young children and shares this information with parents. They report very positively about the progress their children make in her care and the quality of the information she shares with them.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities to build on children's interests and further their learning and development. For example, children develop their physical skills as they fill and empty various containers and their language increases as they talk about what happens when they mix jelly with water. Babies have space to move freely and develop early walking skills. They pull themselves to standing against sturdy furniture or the childminder holds their hands and provides lots of encouragement. The childminder supports children's communication skills very successfully. For example, she makes eye contact with the children when she talks to them and uses lots of facial and vocal expression in her interactions. She asks questions that encourage children to think and speaks clearly to help them understand. Children are taught early basic skills effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop an awareness of a healthy lifestyle. For example, they learn about good personal hygiene routines and the importance of healthy eating. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder encourages children to use good manners, and to look after the toys and resources. They learn to share and take turns and to help pack away when they have finished playing. Children learn about the local community and develop their social skills, for example, when they meet other children and adults at children's centre activities. The childminder is a calm and patient example of how to behave and children copy her lead. Children learn to recognise their feelings and the feelings of others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They confidently explore and participate in activities. Children develop their independence and can do tasks for themselves. They learn how to use books with care, to listen to each other and to ask questions. Children recognise letters, their names and numbers as they play. They are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
