improve her knowledge and understanding of children's development. She plans varied activities that interest and involve the children well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder does not plan effectively for the skills or ideas that children need to learn next. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to identify ways to make changes to her practice that benefit children's outcomes even more.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching in the home. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written testimonials. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of children's learning with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at some paperwork, including children's records, planning and self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects on what she does with the children and is eager to develop her practice and provision to benefit children. She has updated the risk assessments for her home, garden and outings and has made sure that she has the most up-to-date information to help keep children safe. She knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has continued her professional development to develop her knowledge, skills and expertise. For example, she has researched support for children's communication and development to make sure that she supports all children well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are eager and inquisitive learners. They are keen to explore the different activities planned by the childminder. The childminder sensitively extends the learning, including through asking questions and offering suggestions that encourage the children to solve problems. For example, children explored what happened when they added coloured beads to some scales. The childminder asked how many beads were in one pan and the children took on board suggestions and noted that the scales balanced. The childminder teaches the children mathematics well. For example, when connecting different shapes together, she asked children to identify the shapes and tell her how many they had connected together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show good levels of cooperation and share well. Younger children pull dolls' clothes off the clothes line for older children to dress the dolls; older children work together adding water to the bark and mud 'cake' mixture in the mud kitchen. The childminder helps children to understand healthy lifestyles. She discusses healthy food choices with the children at snack time. The childminder regularly provides opportunities for children's physical development. For example, children recalled the fun they had completing an obstacle course and asked to do it again. They eagerly joined in with action rhymes which developed their physical and verbal skills. The childminder prepares children well for moving on to other settings.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They have fun and enjoy their time with the childminder. Children develop good self-care and independent skills, such as using forks and spoons to eat their lunch. All children express their needs well. For example, they recognise when they are tired and ask to go for a sleep. They develop their early reading, writing and number skills well.
