This provision is good

 Since the last inspection, the childminder has successfully addressed all the actions previously raised and strives to continue to raise the quality of her practice. She accesses training, conducts research and liaises with other professionals to help keep her knowledge and skills up to date. This has a positive impact on the quality of the provision and the outcomes for all children.  The childminder gains information from parents and observes children during play to assess what they already know and can do. She uses this information to plan inspiring activities and experiences that match their interests and preferences. Children make good progress from their starting points in readiness for school.  The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about diversity and the wider world. She helps them to learn about their similarities and differences. Children are valued in the setting and their achievements are celebrated. This supports their

self-confidence and boosts their emotional well-being.  Children have regular opportunities to be physically active. They thoroughly enjoy playing in the well-equipped garden and regularly visit local parks. Children learn effectively about the benefits of having healthy lifestyles.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder is not always successful in encouraging some parents to share information about their children's learning at home. This means she does not have all relevant information to plan very precisely for children's future learning.  The childminder does not give older children enough opportunities to express their understanding of what they know. On occasions, she is too quick to answer the questions she asks them.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 develop even more effective ways to encourage parents to share information about what their children are learning at home  give older children the opportunity and the time that they need to fully develop their thinking skills and answer questions.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at those parts of the childminder's home used for the care of children. She spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed teaching and learning activities in the indoor and outdoor environments. She carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including a sample of policies, procedures and children's records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's training and of the suitability of all adults living on the premises.  The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and reviewed written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has made good progress since her last inspection to improve the quality of her provision. She has strengthened her knowledge of assessment processes. This includes ensuring the progress check for children aged between two and three years is completed and shared with parents in a timely way. As a result, any gaps in children's learning and development are now quickly identified and addressed. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed relevant training and has a secure knowledge and understanding of how to keep children safe. She implements a range of effective policies and procedures and the premises are secure. The childminder identifies potential hazards in her home and when out on trips and she carefully supervises children at all times. She regularly seeks the views of parents and children and responds positively to any suggestions they make.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder establishes clear starting points for children's learning and effectively plans for the next steps in their development. She offers children exciting and fun activities, both indoors and outdoors. The childminder interacts well with children and she extends their vocabulary by adding new words as they play. Younger children have lots of opportunities to hear and repeat new words and to develop their speech and language skills. The childminder plays alongside them and responds to what they say. This helps children to develop the confidence to share their views. Older children are enthusiastic, engaged and actively involved in their own learning during role play. They use their creative skills effectively to make interesting combinations of meals. This helps children acquire life skills and develop their independence. The childminder uses these kinds of spontaneous occasions to skilfully help children to learn to count, compare sizes and

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Good settling-in arrangements ensure children form excellent relationships with the childminder and enjoy being in her care. Children explore their environment with increased confidence and make independent choices in their play. Behaviour is good because the childminder is a good role model and effectively teaches them to share, take turns and to use their good manners. Children benefit from visits to the local community and planned outings to various places of interest. This helps children to extend their social skills and build on their personal and emotional development in readiness for school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are active learners and demonstrate a positive attitude to learning. They are confident, behave well and develop strong friendships with other children. Children's communication and language skills are developing well. They readily share their ideas and learn to express themselves from an early age. Children are confident and independent. They make their own choices about what they want to do. Older children's mathematical skills are good. They are learning to count up to 10. All children acquire the skills they need for the next stage of their learning or the move on to school.
