This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn. Children are very interested and engaged in their play for periods of time. The childminder works in partnership with parents and other settings. These partnerships are effective in promoting consistency in care and education which meets all children's individual needs. Children develop secure attachments with the childminder. She treats them with warmth, kindness and consideration. Children quickly grow in confidence and feel valued in this relaxed and friendly environment. Children are supported by the childminder to develop good self-care skills and they are motivated to do things for themselves. This helps to prepare them for their next stage of learning. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice, identifying strengths and areas for further improvement that will benefit the children. She fully includes parents and their

It is not yet outstanding because:
Children have fewer opportunities to build on their existing knowledge and understanding of mathematics during planned activities. The childminder does not always seek as much information as possible from parents about what their child already knows and can do, prior to them starting at the setting.

Inspection activities
The inspector sampled children's assessment records and planning documentation. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her family and looked at a selection of policies, including safeguarding and the childminder's self- evaluation. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading a number of comments and notes given to the childminder. The inspector had a tour of the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect children in her care. She confidently discusses the procedures to follow if she has any concerns and is fully aware of the potential signs and symptoms of abuse. She has detailed policies covering all aspects of care and she shares these with parents at the start of the setting. The childminder is qualified and uses her knowledge well to ensure that legal requirements are met. She is committed to enhancing her knowledge and skills and she has attended some online training courses. The completion of these courses has a positive impact on the quality of experiences offered to the children who attend the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is a committed practitioner who enjoys being with the children. She provides children with an abundance of opportunities for them to consistently direct their own play. The childminder carries out regular observations of the children and uses this information to monitor and assess their individual progress. Regular assessments of children's progress are completed to ensure there are no gaps in children's learning. The childminder plans and provides suitably challenging experiences that inspire children to join in and learn. For example, younger children enjoy exploring the contents of the treasure baskets, stimulating their senses and natural curiosity. Older children enjoy making different patterns out of coloured beads. The childminder skilfully supports children's emerging communication and language skills. She ensures that she is on the children's level while speaking, modelling language and introducing new words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy the company of the childminder. They are happy, content and confident in the childminder's care. Flexible settling-in sessions ensure that children form a strong bond with the childminder and feel comfortable in her home. The childminder encourages children to take risks while keeping themselves and others safe. For example, children learn how to cut their own fruit at snack time, using a knife with clear guidance from the childminder. Children are learning to adopt healthy lifestyles. They are physically active and play outdoors on a daily basis. This helps to promote their sense of well-being and encourages their good health. Children behave well and know what is expected of them. For example, they follow and respect the rules, and show kindness towards their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. Children develop a strong sense of belonging in their surroundings and have opportunities to learn about their local community and beyond. Children are sociable, happy and enjoy learning through play. They are eager to join in activities and feel confident to have a go and try new things. Children independently access a good selection of resources. This helps them to be actively engaged and motivated in their play. Overall, children develop the skills they need to move on in their learning and for moving on to school.
