This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The manager has failed to ensure that the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years is carried out. The manager has not fully implemented a carefully targeted programme of support and mentoring for all staff, in order to further raise the quality of teaching. Staff do not gather enough detailed information from parents regarding what children know and can do when they start at the setting. Self-evaluation is not precise enough to fully identify and plan priorities for improvement, and successfully involve parents and children's views.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Staff are warm and caring. Children demonstrate good relationships with each other. They follow instructions well and demonstrate good sharing and turn taking skills. Staff provide children with regular praise and encouragement. Children of all ages show that they are happy and settled in the setting, they move around confidently, engaging in activities of their choice. They happily separate from their parents on arrival and are keen to play with their friends. All staff understand how to keep children safe from harm. Staff implement a range of policies and procedures which helps them provide children with a safe and secure environment.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the nursery manager. The inspector held a meeting with the nursery manager and provider. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the nursery's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery. The inspector spoke to a small group of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff demonstrate a suitable understanding of possible symptoms of children at risk. They know the action to take to report such concerns. Staff attend mandatory training, such as first aid. However, managers do not monitor staff practice through effective supervisions to identify further professional development needs. This means that staff are not supported to further develop their teaching practice. The manager is keen to develop the setting, although, the plans in place for this are still in their infancy and have yet to have any effective impact. The views of staff, parents and children are not, generally, sought or used well to contribute to this process.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff observe children as they play, and use this information to identify their interests and provide activities they enjoy. However, the progress checks for children between the ages of two and three years have not been completed. This means that children who may be in need of support are not identified swiftly. Where children are identified as requiring additional support prior to starting, staff continue their individual plans and work well with other professionals. A range of toys and equipment can be easily accessed by children and they confidently select resources and experiment freely. Children enjoy outdoor play where they water the plants and look for bugs in the sand.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Staff do not routinely seek more detailed information about what children know and can already do when they start the setting. This means their starting points are not identified from the very beginning. Children's learning journals identify what children have learned from their play and highlight some next steps in their learning. Staff gather initial information from parents about children's care routines. Staff promote children's physical health well, and successfully build their confidence and sense of well-being. Children's behaviour is good. They form strong attachments with staff. Staff encourage children to be polite and respectful to each other. Children benefit from regular opportunities to be active and engage in physical play in the garden and the nearby park. They are provided with healthy meals, and staff work with parents to ensure children bring in healthy lunchboxes.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Not all children are supported to make the best progress they can. This is due to the inconsistent approach towards assessment, particularly as children's starting points are not swiftly identified. Some children are gaining skills needed for their next stage in learning, including school. For example, they demonstrate good social skills and their communication and listening skills are developing. Where children come into the setting with identified needs they are supported well to make progress.
