This provision is good

 The childminder provides a well-organised and welcoming home environment for children. She makes thorough checks of her home each day to identify and remove any hazards.  Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. The childminder is sensitive to their individual needs and adapts the daily routine to support their emotional well- being.  Children take part in a wide variety of interesting activities. They freely choose from the good selection of resources and play materials. Children make good progress in their learning and development.  The childminder has good relationships with parents. They work closely together and she keeps them well informed. For example, she provides regular updates about children's progress to help parents extend their children's learning at home.  The childminder reflects on her practice and is motivated to continually improve. For example, she makes good use of local support networks to keep up to date.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always work closely with other early years settings that children attend, to develop a consistent approach to children's learning and care.  The childminder does not invite feedback from parents regularly to involve them further in the monitoring and evaluation of the provision.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve the arrangements further for working in partnership with other early years settings that children attend, to ensure a more consistent approach  extend the involvement of parents further in the monitoring and evaluation of the provision, to include their views when identifying areas for improvement.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder.  The inspector had discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about her practice and children's learning and development.  The inspector sampled documents, including children's records.  The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children.  The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to safeguard children and knows how to recognise and report any concerns. She is well organised and the records required for childminding are detailed and up to date. The childminder makes good use of training to develop her knowledge, practice and skills. For example, she has extended strategies for further supporting children's language development following a course. She reflects on what she does and makes changes to develop and improve the provision. For example, she has made changes to how she plans activities, to fully take the needs of children of different ages into account.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her assessments of children's achievements effectively to closely monitor their progress and quickly identify any gaps in their learning. She supports children's language and communication skills well. She talks with children as they play, listens to them and introduces new words. The childminder responds quickly to children's interests. For instance, she finds different ways for children to use their favourite car while they practise new skills. She makes good use of everyday activities to encourage children's learning. Older children use pens and clipboards to write down orders in the role play restaurant and young children look out for words and letters around them during walks.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has a warm, calm and reassuring approach. She acts as a good role model and offers children gentle guidance and praise. Children settle quickly and grow in confidence. They behave well and learn to treat each other with respect. The childminder supervises children closely. She supports children's good health effectively. For instance, children know that they need to wash their hands before they eat and they enjoy nutritious meals and snacks. Children play outside every day as part of a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy a wide variety of activities in the garden, as well as trips to the park, the woods and the beach.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They become confident communicators and clearly express their wishes and needs. They grow in independence and make choices about their play. For example, they help themselves to toys and activities. Children play happily together, learning to share and take turns. They become absorbed in their play and are motivated to learn. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move to school.
