This provision is good
Children develop secure relationships with the childminder and are happy in her care. She is warm and sensitive and responds attentively to children's individual needs, supporting their emotional well-being well. The childminder teaches effectively and uses good opportunities to build children's communication and language skills. For example, she sounds-out words and introduces new words in play activities. She checks on children's progress regularly to ensure all, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress. The childminder takes a professional approach to improving her practice. She uses what she learns at training events to improve her expertise and outcomes for children. The childminder teaches children about how to play cooperatively so that they learn to share and to take turns, valuing the needs of others. They behave well. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder provides parents with regular

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector toured the parts of the childminder's home that children use. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their written views on the day of the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant, looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder provides children with a safe and secure environment in which to play and learn. She has a thorough understanding of local safeguarding procedures and knows what action she would take if she had concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder is committed to providing children with a good- quality learning environment. She makes the most of regular training opportunities to build on her knowledge and skills. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and gains the views of parents and children to guide improvement. For example, she has improved how she shares children's learning with parents and other early years settings that older children attend, to encourage a joint approach to their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good knowledge about children's individual needs and typically plans well for their future learning. Children enjoy opportunities to develop their creative skills in activities which usually motivate their play. For example, younger children enjoy using paint, pencils and stickers and develop their creativity and imagination well. The childminder generally makes good use of activities to build on children's knowledge and skills. She is particularly successful at supporting children's speech and language so that they rapidly learn new words. They are confident in speaking to adults and to each other. The childminder checks children's progress closely and swiftly puts additional support in place to help any children needing to catch up.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop good physical skills as the childminder provides them with activities that engage them in active play. For example, children enjoy playing ball, riding in large toy cars and using the see-saw and slide in the childminder's spacious garden. They have good opportunities to develop their social skills. For instance, they visit local groups where they mix and develop friendships with other children. Children are confident and have good levels of self-esteem. They are keen to join in with new activities and benefit from the childminder's frequent praise and encouragement. Children learn about healthy lifestyles effectively. For instance, the childminder provides them with healthy meals and snacks, and encourages them to drink regularly to keep themselves hydrated.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. Children are happy, cooperative and usually keen to learn. They typically like being involved in activities. Children learn about colours and shapes, and develop good speaking and listening skills. They are prepared well for their next stage in learning.
