This provision is good
The childminder has worked successfully to address the areas for development from her previous inspection. For example, she uses observation and assessment of children's achievements well to identify their interests and help her to plan for their learning. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively to help enable her to identify any weaknesses in their learning and development. She knows how to find appropriate support from other professionals if necessary to help ensure that all children make good progress from their starting points. Children develop their communication and language skills well. For example, the childminder is a good role model, extending children's language and introducing new words into their vocabulary. The childminder supports children well to become independent in their learning. For example, they play an active part in caring for their environment by tidying away the

It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to support children to talk about their emotions so they can learn how to manage their feelings. The childminder's self-evaluation process is not always as effective as possible at helping her identify areas where she can improve her practice and outcomes for children. For example, she does not consistently incorporate the views of parents.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the childminder's interaction with them. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including risk assessments, policies and the children's files. The inspector spoke with the children and childminder at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date; for example, she completes regular child protection training and knows who to contact if she has a concern. She has a good understanding of her responsibilities to promote children's welfare and protect them from harm. The childminder regularly assesses for potential risks to help ensure children can play safely in her care. She continues to develop and refresh her practice, such as through research and networking with other childminders. For example, she has used her learning to promote opportunities to enhance children's knowledge and understanding of the world.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder seeks information from parents on what children can already do for themselves to help her plan for their learning from the outset. She plays alongside the children and uses this well to extend their knowledge and understanding effectively. The childminder helps children gain a good awareness of mathematical ideas. For example, she discusses concepts, such as halves, when children cut playdough and how shapes, such as squares, are made up by having four equal sides. The childminder shares information with parents on the activities children enjoy and have done so they can promote children's learning further at home. She takes children on a wide range of outings in the community and beyond. For example, they visit forests, the seaside and local parks to help children understand about the local area and the world around them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment. There is a good range of resources easily accessible for children and they make independent choices and decisions. Children are secure in their relationships with the childminder. For example, they feel emotionally secure and greet new people with confidence. Overall, children behave well. For example, the childminder helps them to understand sharing and turn taking with their toys. She promotes children's self-esteem well by, for example, praising their achievements. Children have daily opportunities to practise their physical skills, such as outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are very motivated in their play and concentrate for very good lengths of time on activities that interest them. Children are confident communicators and talk about their discoveries as they play, such as the results of mixing together different colours of playdough using dough plungers. Children are developing a good understanding of early literacy. For example, they made marks for a purpose completing shopping lists to support their imaginary play. Children learn valuable skills to prepare them for future learning and in readiness for school.
