This provision is good

 The childminder has improved the support for children's communication and language skills. She is regularly managing the performance of her assistants. Children are consistently supported to follow good hygiene procedures throughout the day. As a result, the quality of the provision is now good.  The childminder demonstrates a sound commitment to continually updating her knowledge, and that of her assistants, of safeguarding issues. This includes training, a yearly conference and regularly reading information from the local authority.  The childminder effectively observes children's learning to identify how she can move them forward. She generates very clear plans of support with useful details of the role that adults can take. Any gaps in children's learning are closing quickly.  The childminder has developed clear routines and boundaries so that children know what is expected of them. She is very positive and consistent in reminding children to

take turns. She uses a simple phrase with children to help them remember to share, as well as to recognise the feelings of others.  The childminder makes good use of the indoor and outdoor environment to promote children's learning. She regularly changes the resources and layout of the areas to provide variety and meet the needs of different children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder is not yet rigorous enough in the evaluation of teaching to drive improvements that secure the highest level of achievement for children.  The childminder does not always regularly give parents and carers information about what their child is learning next. She does not always encourage them to share information about children's learning at home to fully inform her assessments.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance the evaluation of teaching and use the information to focus even more precisely on raising children's achievements to the highest levels  strengthen the partnership with parents and carers to more effectively guide children's learning at home and to share what they know about their children's achievements.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector discussed the planning of activities with the childminder.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living and working on the premises.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of training.  The inspector took account of written feedback from parents and carers.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder provides an effective induction for her assistants so that they are clear of their role and the policies and procedures. As a result, the childminder and her assistants work very well together to ensure the smooth running of the setting. There is a seamless transition between activities. The childminder and her assistants make good use of information gained through training to improve the practice within the setting. For example, they have recently implemented a very useful and clear system to monitor the progress of children. The childminder uses an appraisal system that encourages staff to evaluate their own practice. She is very reflective and constantly evaluating, giving careful consideration to meeting the needs of the children she is caring for. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is very thorough in her risk assessments of the premises and outings to ensure children's safety.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistants provide good quality support for children's learning. They immerse themselves in play and children thoroughly enjoy their interaction. They describe and explain what they are doing to support children's learning. The childminder and her assistants fully familiarise themselves with what each child is learning next so that they can provide appropriate support. Children enjoy playing in the well-resourced play dough area. The assistant prompts children to use their imagination as they choose to make models of food. She takes the opportunity to reinforce their understanding of staying safe as they pretend to make a hot drink. The assistant also encourages children to experiment with the different tools and to persevere if they are finding it hard. Children have opportunities to participate in a range of interesting activities throughout the day, including age-appropriate group time.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave very well. They are kind and considerate to others as a result of the very effective support that the childminder and her assistants provide. All children receive equal attention and very good support to develop their confidence in social situations. The childminder effectively helps children to feel ready for their move on to other settings. She also has a clear and well-supported plan to help children develop the skills they need for their future learning. The childminder and her assistants consistently encourage children's independence. They provide good support for children to develop their physical skills; for example, as they guide children how to play ball games.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in their learning. Parents and carers all comment on how their children have progressed as a result of attending the setting. Children have good perseverance skills and do not give up easily when something is difficult. They recognise when they achieve something and enjoy celebrating this. Children listen with interest to stories and rhymes and join in with the actions. They engage in play for very long periods of time, due to the effective interaction by adults.
