Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults living and working on the premises. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. She also spoke to a small number of parents and took account of their written views provided by the childminder.
p.2

Strategies are agreed to prepare children well for the next stage in their learning and for school, when the time comes. Children show interest and curiosity as they explore and investigate the very interesting play resources provided, both indoors and outside. The childminder skilfully responds to children's fascinations as she plays with them. Children confidently use language to ask questions and to tell stories using their imaginations. They develop their physical skills as they use garden tools to plant and grow seeds. Children develop their early mathematical skills as they recognise numerals and consider how much time it will take to cook fish fingers for lunch.
p.3

The childminder takes the time to get to know children and their families well. Information is exchanged with parents on a daily basis. This ensures children's individual routines and care needs are understood and met effectively. The childminder focuses very well on helping children to be independent. Children confidently follow instructions, such as laying the table at mealtimes. They are learning how to keep themselves safe as they help to prepare and cook a hot meal for lunch. Children enjoy healthy and nutritious meals and spend lots of time being active in the outdoors. They learn about the world around them as they visit the library, farm and park. Children develop their social skills as they go on a picnic in the park joined by other childminders and children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They share their ideas and wishes and take pleasure in completing their chosen tasks. Children are learning to attend to their own care needs. They help themselves to a drink when needed and put on the wellington boots to go outdoors. Children develop their early writing skills as they enjoy making marks on paper. They confidently sound out letters in their name and suggest other words that start with the same letter.
