Inspection activities
The inspector watched the childminder's interactions with children indoors and outdoors. The inspector conducted a leadership and management discussion with the childminder. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at documentation, including children's learning journals.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder improves outcomes for children through effectively evaluating the quality of her provision; this is an improvement since the last inspection. For example, the childminder has made targeted improvements to her outside area and has developed an exciting and inviting role play area. Children develop some skills that will help them as they move on to school. For example, they recognise their names as they hang up their coats or find their birthday on a calendar. The childminder has built positive links with other professionals and settings, helping children to benefit from a shared understanding of their care and learning needs. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and safeguarding procedures to support children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children develop a range of skills as they explore. For example, they play with building blocks and the childminder skilfully extends their language and helps to develop their vocabulary. Children are keen to take part in the activities on offer. They concentrate for a long time and make a range of shapes and colours using pens. The childminder extends children's learning as they explore. For example, children score goals in a goal net outside and the childminder helps children to think about speed and distance.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and happy. Their behaviour is good. Children sit nicely for snack time and develop positive table manners. Children have plenty of time to follow their own ideas. They use low-level climbing equipment outdoors and challenge themselves to jump and swing from apparatus. Children get lots of fresh air and exercise. The childminder builds positive relationships with children, which supports their emotional well-being effectively. She continually encourages children in their attempts to succeed.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to share as they play. They are consistently kind and helpful. Children thrive in a well-resourced environment. Children are confident, sociable and well prepared for moving on to school.
