This provision is good

 The new manager and her staff have made significant improvements since the last inspection. For example, the manager and her new team have worked closely with the local authority to thoroughly review practice and make many positive changes. As a result, the quality of the provision is now good.  Staff create a stimulating and well-resourced environment. Children arrive happy and eager to learn. All staff display good teaching as they promote children's communication and language. For example, with younger children they narrate what they are doing and model key words clearly.  Staff and children develop close bonds and secure attachments. Staff are kind, caring and attentive towards the children. Babies and toddlers show that they are emotionally secure, as they become active learners and have the confidence to explore.  Relationships with parents are strong. Staff engage and involve them effectively in their

children's learning. They ensure that parents are reassured during the thorough induction process. Staff show parents how they can continue children's learning at home, sharing in their achievements.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always focus teaching well enough on challenging children's thinking even further.  Staff do not always consider further ways for children to use technology or explore how things operate.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 challenge children's ideas and understanding consistently to develop the good teaching even further and help children to make the maximum progress  increase children's opportunities to explore and use everyday technology, particularly to help them learn how things work.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching both indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact on the children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the manager, room leaders, staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as children's learning journeys and planning.  The inspector looked at policies and procedures and checked evidence of staff qualifications and suitability.  The inspector took into account the views of a small group of parents during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The manager provides staff with consistent and strong support to develop their existing qualifications and skills, and encourage staff to attend a range of training. All staff benefit from regular observations and appraisals as part of their continual professional development. This results in positive outcomes for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All staff are trained in child protection procedures. They have a thorough understanding of what to do should they have a safeguarding concern. Recruitment procedures are robust. The manager has high expectations of her staff and ensures they are fully aware of the nursery's policies and procedures, during their induction period. Self-evaluation includes the views of staff and parents and is used well to drive improvement. The manager has effective systems in place to monitor children's progress and any gaps in development are quickly identified.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff are highly qualified and have a thorough understanding of how children learn and develop. They plan a wide range of interesting activities based on children's needs and interests. They collate purposeful information from their ongoing observations of children's learning to meet the needs of each child. For example, staff use information from parents about a child's birthday party at the zoo to plan activities about wild and farm animals to support ongoing learning. The indoor and outdoor spaces are easily accessible and well organised to encourage children to experience a wide range of learning experiences. For example, children take their favourite books into the 'Hobbit house' outside and enjoy digging in the soil, filling up different sized plant pots. Spontaneous activities are used very well to extend children's learning. For example, watching the aeroplanes fly overhead and pretending to be on an aeroplane in the garden, waving at the passengers.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff caring for babies are attentive towards their needs. They are nurturing and sensitively interact with them. High-quality information, such as sleep routines and allergies, is obtained when children start nursery. Promotion of the children's health is given good consideration. Meals and snacks are freshly prepared, healthy and nutritious. Children's dietary requirements are catered for. For example, staff use a coloured coded system to identify different dietary needs with labelled placemats and corresponding coloured plates and cups. Good hygiene standards are observed. Handwashing is promoted well and children become excited, repeating the handwashing song with staff. Staff have high expectations and set clear boundaries which children understand. Children are praised and rewarded for good behaviour. This boosts their confidence immensely and children behave well.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Key skills are taught well, so children make consistently good progress and develop the necessary skills for future learning. They have good opportunities to develop early writing skills. For example, making marks in sand. Children are enthusiastic and enjoy being at the nursery. They develop confidence and make independent choices in their learning.
