This provision is good
The childminder provides a well-organised and welcoming home environment for children. She makes thorough checks of her home each day to identify and remove any hazards so that children can play safely. Children are confident, happy and settled in the childminder's care. She knows them well and adapts the daily routine effectively to meet their individual needs. Children take part in a wide variety of interesting activities that they enjoy. They choose from a good selection of resources and play materials. Children make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points. The childminder works effectively with any other settings that children attend. For instance, she meets with them regularly to share information. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice. She makes changes that have a positive impact on children, such as regularly reviewing and changing the resources
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use her assessments fully effectively to help monitor children's development and her teaching even more precisely, and identify any gaps in learning as quickly as possible. The childminder does not always share as much information as she could with parents to help them support children's individual learning at home further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about her practice, and children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documents including children's records. The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector read questionnaires completed by parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to recognise and report any child protection concerns to help keep children safe. She completes thorough suitability checks on her assistant to make sure that she is suitable for her role. She monitors her assistant's performance effectively, by discussing practice regularly and providing training opportunities. The childminder is well organised and keeps all of the records required for childminding. She makes good use of links with other childminders, and the support of the local authority, to keep up with changes and get new ideas. She invites regular feedback from parents to help her monitor and evaluate her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well and plans activities around their interests and needs. She supports young children's communication and language skills effectively. She talks to them as they play, introducing and repeating new words. She gives children time to explore and try things for themselves. For example, children have fun investigating the sand tray, filling and emptying containers of different sizes and shapes. The childminder makes good use of everyday routines to extend children's learning. For instance, she encourages children to count out their slices of banana at snack time. She responds to children's interests well. For example, children enjoyed visiting some local horses and then a bus ride to the pet shop to find out more about different animals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has warm, caring relationships with children and they settle quickly. She acts as a good role model and children behave well. They quickly become familiar with the daily routines. Children develop their independence and personal care skills. For instance, they wash their hands before they eat and they make choices about what they want for their snack. The childminder helps children learn useful skills to keep themselves safe. She talks to them about road safety and involves them in regular fire drills. Children enjoy playing outside every day; they have fun practising their physical skills on the slide.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children become independent learners, for example, they help themselves to the toys they want to play with. They learn to share and take turns and develop good social skills. Children become confident communicators. They clearly communicate their wishes and needs. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move on to school.
