This provision is good
The childminder skilfully motivates children to be excited in their learning. She provides a good range of activities that prepare children well for future learning. Children play in safety in the childminder's home. She carries out thorough risk assessments to identify and reduce potential hazards. She helps children to develop their awareness of how to keep safe, for example, teaching them about road safety. Children have secure relationships with the childminder. She provides a calm and nurturing environment in which all children feel included. The childminder supports children's care needs and emotional well-being well. The childminder attends training courses and meets with childminding colleagues to keep her knowledge of new legislation and teaching ideas up to date. This has enabled her to improve her practices and the outcomes for children since her last inspection.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not effectively include children's cultures and home languages in the daily routines and activities. There are not enough opportunities for children to value their individual heritage and home languages, to develop a strong sense of self and to develop their communication and language skills further. The childminder does not successfully obtain information from parents about their children's learning and achievements at home, to help her build on their experiences and the planning process.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

help children to recognise and value their heritage and home languages more during activities seek ongoing information from parents about their children's interests and learning at home, to build on children's experiences and the planning process.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children and discussed their observations of children's play, learning and progress. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues and the procedure to follow if she is concerned about a child. The childminder uses self-evaluation efficiently to plan and implement improvements. She considers the views of parents in this process, via written references, to ensure that her planned developments are relevant. The childminder uses assessments effectively to help her identify gaps in children's learning and plan activities that support their progress well. She shares these with parents so they are aware of what their children learn and enjoy.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages children to expand their imagination well. She uses various activities to inspire children's creativity. For example, children look at butterflies and create their own interpretations using paper, glitter and glue. The childminder supports them well to explore their ideas. The childminder skilfully develops children's learning of mathematics. She encourages them to count during everyday activities, and during activities outdoors, they fill and empty containers of sand and explore volume and capacity. The childminder knows the children well and ensures that she meets their interests and learning needs. For example, for those children who love listening to stories and playing outside, she has set up a tepee so they can enjoy these outdoors.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident in the childminder's home, and happily help themselves to the varied range of resources and play materials. The childminder encourages children to gain independence well; for example, during mealtimes, she helps them to cut up strawberries for their pudding. The childminder supports children's good health through consistent health and hygiene routines, such as hand washing and discussions about the benefits of healthy eating. The childminder supports children's emotional well-being effectively. She gives lots of praise and encouragement, and displays photographs of the children in her home, supporting children to feel proud of their achievements and gain a sense of belonging. The childminder helps children to behave well. They learn to listen to each other, take turns and value others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children benefit from a range of activities and opportunities in the childminder's home and on outings that develop their physical skills well. Children make good progress from their starting points. They communicate confidently, are active learners and have a positive attitude to learning. Children develop good social and independence skills, which prepare them well for their move to school.
