This provision is good
The childminder observes, monitors and makes regular assessments of children's progress. She knows the children well, their interests and achievements, providing a good range of experiences. The childminder actively joins in children's play. All children make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points. Children have a close bond with the childminder. They explore the environment with confidence, choosing what they want to play. Children are happy and confident with the patient and friendly childminder. She offers a caring, home-from-home environment. The childminder interacts positively and supports children's emotional development well. The childminder encourages young children to be independent, for example, to find their own shoes and attempt to put them on before she helps them. Thorough risk assessments help the childminder to identify and minimise risks in her

home. Children move safely, freely and independently around her home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to think and explore their ideas, to extend their learning further. The childminder keeps parents up to date about their children's progress, activities and learning, so they are clear about what their children can do. However, she does not always encourage parents to share what their children learn at home, to contribute more fully to their children's assessments.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact of the childminder's practices on children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records, regulatory documentation, and policies and procedures. The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together. The inspector took account of the views and comments of parents. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and engaged with children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to recognise signs that may indicate children are at risk and how to report her concerns to protect their welfare. She attends network meetings with other childminders to keep up to date with any changes to legislation and amends her written policies and procedures to reflect changes in requirements. The childminder shares these changes with parents so they are clear about her practices to keep children safe. The childminder monitors her effectiveness well to identify areas to develop and improve. This has helped her to provide more opportunities for children to engage in messy activities. The childminder uses the support of other professionals to help develop her teaching, to meet children's changing needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's learning and progress well. She helps children to learn colours and to practise counting. For example, she helped the children to count the line of parked toy cars they had created. The childminder adds interesting items to enhance children's play and imagination; she provided chopped lettuce to create 'grass' for the toy zoo animals to eat. The childminder supports younger children well to move on to the next stage of their development, for example, to use a cup instead of a bottle. She gives them lots of support and praise as they learn to manage this with increasing confidence.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children appear very settled in the warm and inviting family environment. They follow a familiar routine with the childminder, which contributes to their sense of security. Children enjoy good opportunities to be physically active, especially as they play and explore the garden with its good range of toys, helping them to develop control of their movements. The childminder values children's views and contributions, and provides them with plenty of choices throughout the day. She takes the children to meet with other childminders and regularly visits a local community centre. This helps children to meet other children and develop their social skills. Children learn to be respectful of other people, to share, take turns and play together. For example, they applaud each other when they find a toy hidden and reassuringly pat each other on the back if they are sad.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children work within the range of development typical for their age. They make choices confidently and actively explore the environment and resources. Children learn good social skills from a young age, helping them to engage well with others. They are emotionally secure and independent, gaining the skills they need in readiness for school and their next stage of learning.
