enjoy healthy snacks and meals and participate in a variety of physical activities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not have enough opportunities to learn about people from other cultures or with different abilities.  The childminder's arrangements for professional development are not ambitious enough to improve her knowledge and skills to the highest level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow to keep children safe. She knows what to do and who to report to in the event of a concern for a child's welfare. The childminder makes thorough risk assessments to keep children safe in all areas of her home and on outings. Comprehensive written policies and procedures help to ensure that parents are well informed about all aspects of the provision. The childminder works effectively with other early years settings that children also attend to provide consistent support. For example, she gains information about what children are learning and how they are supported. The childminder reflects on her practice and provision well and seeks parents' views effectively to help her make continuous improvements. She involves parents in their children's learning, for example by sharing children's daily activities and progress. Parents are very happy with the service the

childminder offers. They comment that she is professional, organised and experienced.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder monitors children's learning and progress. For example, she completes observations and assessments of children's learning and identifies the next steps in learning that help them progress. The childminder has addressed weaknesses raised at her previous inspection. For example, resources are now well organised. Children choose from a varied range of toys and resources which provides them with challenge and fun. Younger children's sensory play and exploration are promoted to help their emerging skills. Children enjoy being artistic and use media and materials to be creative. For example, young children enjoy making handprints and footprints with paint. They have fun playing in the water splashing and emptying and filling containers. Older children enjoy using their imaginative skills to create their own dance routines.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a positive role model and has a friendly and welcoming approach. Children behave well. Children are keen to help with practical tasks, such as tidying away their toys. They play together well and show they care about each other. The childminder effectively supports healthy eating. She encourages children to try a broad range of nutritious foods to widen their diet and support their healthy growth. Children develop good physical skills and they enjoy playing outdoors and visiting local parks to play on large equipment. They also go on outings to the farm, ice cream parlour and museums. This supports their learning about the wider world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. The childminder's good teaching helps children to enjoy their play and ensures that any identified gaps in their learning are closing. Children are motivated to learn. They confidently name shapes, count and recognise numbers. Children learn new words and develop their language skills through enjoyable songs, stories and rhymes. Older children learn to form the letters of their name and know the sounds that some of them make. Children initiate many of their own learning activities, which develops their independence in readiness for school.
