This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She uses her observations of children's interests to plan exciting and challenging activities to enhance their learning. Children settle well in the childminder's care. She gains clear and comprehensive information from parents about their children's needs, likes and dislikes through a well- presented All about me document. The childminder understands how to promote children's health effectively. She provides children with a well-balanced diet, takes account of any dietary requirements and encourages children to live an active life. The childminder has effective systems for working with parents and other early years settings which children attend. The childminder has clear written policies and procedures which she shares with parents to ensure that they are fully aware of all aspects of her provision.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always promote children's understanding of the world, with regards to people and communities, as well as she does for other aspects of this area of learning.

enhance the opportunities currently provided for children to explore what makes them unique and help them to recognise similarities and differences in the wider community.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a discussion with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of all adults living on the premises. The inspector took account of parents' views through survey responses. The inspector held a discussion with the childminder about her understanding of how children learn and her assessment procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates good knowledge of the signs and symptoms of abuse and knows who to contact if she has concerns about children in her care. The childminder regularly updates her safeguarding knowledge through appropriate training and keeps abreast of changes to current guidance. The childminder ensures that her home is clean, safe and well organised. She effectively assesses the risks to children within her home and when they go on outings with her. The childminder uses new knowledge from training effectively to enhance her provision. She is currently working towards a level 3 qualification in childcare and targets training to enhance and improve specific aspects of her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder. They are keen, motivated and inquisitive learners. The childminder extends children's thinking through effectively timed questions. Children participate in a good balance of freely chosen play, as well as some planned activities, which are generally based around individual children's interests. The playhouse in the garden is currently a role play cafe where children make use of the cooker and play food to provide each other with meals and snacks. Children plan and organise this space and with the childminder's help devise a price list which they display on the door. Their mathematical skills are promoted as they work out how much the meals will cost. Children enjoy trips and activities within the local area which enhance their learning experiences. They often visit the zoo, parks and other local attractions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are comfortable in the childminder's care. They move around her home with ease and confidently select their chosen toys and resources. The childminder is warm and caring towards children and speaks to them in a positive manner. She encourages children to be mindful of each other's feelings. For example, she talks to them about whether their actions will make the other children happy or sad. The childminder has clear strategies in place for dealing with children's minor conflicts. For example, she uses a timer to encourage children to take turns. She also encourages them to solve minor disagreements themselves by thinking about the best solution to the problem. The childminder encourages children to help to make their own sandwiches at lunchtime. She provides them with opportunities to have choices and to develop key independence skills that will be useful in later life. Children make good use of the resources in the garden and at the

local park to promote their physical abilities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning in relation to their starting points. They become independent young people who determine their own learning and initiate games with each other. Children understand instructions and follow them carefully. They understand how to take risks as they climb on and off of the trampoline in the garden, making sure that they secure the netting before they begin jumping. Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning, including school.
