This provision is good

 The childminder has been proactive in addressing actions raised in her last inspection and is keen to improve her practice further. For example, she attends courses regularly and updates her professional knowledge to improve the quality of the service she provides.  The childminder has developed effective systems for assessing children's progress. She has a good knowledge of children's interests and next steps in learning, and uses this successfully to move children forward in their learning. Children make good progress.  The childminder provides children with lots of opportunities to lead their own play and make decisions. For example, she encourages children's curiosity and helps children test out their ideas during water play.  The childminder is caring and supportive. Children are happy in her care and demonstrate secure and trusting relationships with her.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always recognise when to give children more time to think and solve problems for themselves.  At times, the childminder misses opportunities to help children extend their creative thinking as they play and explore.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide children with sufficient time to respond to ideas and solve problems for themselves  improve use of dialogue to help children sustain and develop their imaginative ideas further as they play and explore.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies and children's records.  The inspector took account of parents' written views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Parent partnerships are good. The childminder keeps parents well informed about children's welfare and learning. They work well together to support children's learning at home and in the setting. The childminder has established good partnerships with other settings children attend. For example, she shares information regularly to ensure she supports children's development effectively and provides continuity of care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. She has a clear understanding of the process to follow should she need to report any concerns about a child's well-being.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a wide range of activities to help motivate children to learn. For example, she encourages children to explore the natural world and teaches them to observe closely using magnifying glasses. She supports children's communication and language skills well. Conversations flow naturally, and she listens carefully and asks questions that encourage children to contribute further. The childminder makes effective use of opportunities to help children's mathematical understanding. For example, she provides counting models as children play. The childminder helps children develop their early literacy skills. She provides a wide range of writing equipment and encourages children to make marks with glitter and glue sticks.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works closely with parents when children first start. She makes good use of settling-in sessions to support children's emotional security. The childminder is a good role model and implements a range of strategies to help children learn to behave well. The childminder teaches children effectively about their responsibilities and supports their independence. She teaches children to manage their own personal care routines independently and children help to tidy up without being prompted. The childminder supports children's social skills and understanding of the world they live in effectively. For example, she takes children out into the community and attends local playgroups regularly.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are curious, confident and motivated to learn. They are inquisitive learners and ask questions as they play and explore. Children have their own ideas and express these clearly. For example, they made links as they compared the size of snails they found in the garden. Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning and eventual move to school.
