This provision is good
The childminder carries out regular observations of children during their play. She makes accurate assessments of their achievements and plans effectively for their individual learning needs. Children are inspired to learn and make good progress from their starting points. Children behave well and develop good social skills. The childminder is consistent in her approach and children respond well to gentle reminders to share and take turns. The childminder makes thorough risk assessments to help her minimise hazards to children. She is careful to supervise the children at all times and teaches them how to keep themselves safe. The childminder teaches children good hygiene rules and she provides them with healthy, nutritionally balanced meals and snacks. She effectively supports their good health and physical well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend further children's awareness about the similarities and differences between people. The childminder's systems to evaluate the quality of the provision do not take into consideration the suggestions and ideas of parents and children.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities, including their interactions with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke with children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at areas of the premises used for childminding and sampled relevant documentation, including children's records. The inspector and the childminder jointly observed children at play and evaluated an activity together.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong understanding of her role and responsibilities to protect children. She has clear policies and procedures in place to follow if she feels concerned for a child. Overall, the childminder monitors her practice well and is keen to further develop her knowledge and skills to improve outcomes for children. She recently learned different ways to support children's creative development, to build on children's learning. The childminder tracks children's progress effectively, to ensure that any identified gaps in their learning are narrowing. She shares this information with parents, to ensure that she provides children with consistency in their care and meets their individual needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's learning effectively. She provides children with enjoyable learning experiences which reflect their interests and help them to become keen and motivated learners. The childminder uses her good teaching skills to encourage and challenge children's growing communication and language skills. For example, children enjoyed measuring colourful rice and using foam to make models. The childminder supported their learning further; for example, by asking questions to test their understanding and encouraging them to express their thoughts. She effectively prepares children for their future learning, including when they move on to school. The childminder supports children's physical skills well. For example, children enjoy exploring in the childminder's garden as they learn to jump and balance.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy, settled and show they feel emotionally secure in the childminder's care. They learn to value and respect one another, and feel confident in the childminder's home. The childminder is caring and attentive to children's needs. She consistently praises children to build their self-esteem and confidence. Children develop good levels of independence during everyday activities. For example, they helped to tidy up and put on dressing-up clothes during their play. Children learn about how to keep themselves safe from potential harm. For example, they take part in regular emergency evacuation procedures and learn how to cross roads safely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and achieve the important skills they need for the next stages in their learning, including their eventual move to school. They enjoy exploring books and stories, and build an early interest in reading, writing and numbers. Children grow in confidence, and are happy and confident learners. For example, they enjoy visits to local parks and playgroups where they socialise with other children.
