p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The manager does not meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and associated requirements of the Childcare Register. She does not ensure that there is at least one member of staff who has a current paediatric first aid certificate on site when children are present. Self-evaluation is not used effectively to identify breaches of requirements and target key areas for improvement. Although the manager has met and addressed the actions from the club's previous inspection, she has not fully met the recommendation raised. The manager has not developed links with all the schools the children attend, to help fully support their individual needs.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children's behaviour is good. They play well together, share and show thoughtfulness towards the other children. Staff know children well and have developed good relationships with them. Children feel safe and secure in the club. Staff maintain the required ratios and supervise children well in the club and when on outings.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

ensure that at least one member of staff who has a current paediatric first aid certificate is present at all times when children are attending the club 25/09/2016
p.2
Due Date
improve links with the schools children attend to work more closely to support children's individual needs. 05/09/2016

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

improve self-evaluation to identify breaches in requirements and key areas for improvement.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed staff and children at play. The inspector held discussions with the manager, staff, children and parents. The inspector viewed a sample of documents, including children's information, staff records and qualifications, attendance records for staff and children, risk assessments, accident records and policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The provider has made some improvements since the last inspection. She has attended safeguarding training and has a sound understanding of child protection issues. Staff now know what to do if they have a concern about a child's welfare or about the behaviour of a colleague. The provider has let her first aid certificate expire before attending a refresher course. This means at times there is no one with a current paediatric first aid certificate working directly with the children. However, the provider's first aid certificate has only just expired and she has already booked on a course. This limits the impact on children's well-being. Staff have regular discussions with the provider to support their practice. However, the provider's self-evaluation is not effective to identify training for all staff to ensure they meet the requirements. The recruitment procedures and ongoing checks ensure that all staff employed are suitable for their role. Parents are kept informed

about the activities offered and the provider and staff respect parents' wishes. For example, staff have set a time limit when children play with certain electronic games.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Children are settled, happy and engage in the activities on offer. Children attend various local schools in the area, so staff effectively plan group games to help children get to know one another and develop their cooperation skills. As a result, the older children help the younger ones to play fairly. Staff know children interests well and plan engaging team games. For example, with staff's support all children become fully involved in the drawing and guessing game, with each child taking turns to draw and guess. Children have opportunities to develop their own ideas, such as when constructing with bricks, being creative with art materials or making a den. However, staff do not always work closely with the teachers to share information about children's individual needs to enable them to offer consistent support for children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Staff escort children from the local schools in the area and ensure they follow clear safety practices when walking. Children walk in pairs, wear high-visibility jackets, and they cross busy roads using appropriate crossings. Staff are good role models. They listen to what children have to say and enable them to share their ideas and thoughts with each other. Staff support children well, praising and recognising their efforts, which raises children's self-esteem. Staff support children's well-being. For example, they remind children to drink plenty of water when they return to the club when the weather is hot. However, due to the provider's first aid certificate recently expiring, there is not always a first aid trained member of staff on site to fully support children's welfare.
