This provision is good

 Children have very warm and close relationships with the childminder. They settle very well and develop confidence quickly with her. The childminder provides individual time for each child to settle in her care.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's learning effectively and takes account of their stages of development and current interests. Children make good progress in their learning and development.  Children enjoy safe and well-organised play spaces with easy access to a wide range of toys and resources. The childminder ensures all children learn through play and provides good opportunities for this inside, outside and during various visits.  The childminder regularly evaluates her provision, takes account of parents' and children's views and has clear plans for further improvements. She is ambitious and aims to achieve high standards in children's care and education.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always extend opportunities for children to explore technology to operate and understand how things work.  Although, the childminder involves parents in children's learning to maintain continuity in their development, she does not always fully engage them to increase children's understanding of the importance of a healthy diet.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to explore technology and understand how things work  build on partnerships with parents to increase children's understanding of the importance of a healthy diet.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observation, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability checks to work with children and sampled her policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that she is fully up to date with new legislation and regulations, and attends required training. She knows how to keep children safe and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about their safety or welfare. The childminder observes, assesses and monitors each child's progress effectively and regularly shares this with parents, so they are aware of what their children achieve and how they can support this at home. Her secure systems help the childminder to identify any areas where a child may need extra support in their learning and to plan accordingly. The childminder works well with other professionals to share ideas and develop her practices.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the early years foundation stage and creates a vibrant and interesting learning environment for children that covers all areas of learning. The childminder focuses activities on children's interests and abilities, helping them to develop new skills, and to be eager to learn and explore. She supports children well in their play; for example, helping children to wash their dolls in a mini bath, dry them, put their 'nappy' on and 'comfort' them. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. She reads books with children, models language to extend their vocabulary and asks questions that encourage them to think for themselves.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model and encourages children to take turns and share as they play together. She teaches children to be polite, use their manners and help others. Even the youngest children help to tidy away resources they have used, which develops their independence and sense of responsibility well. Children develop their physical skills daily and benefit from visits with the childminder to various places within their community, helping them to learn about diversity.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make independent decisions about where they want to play and they remain engaged for good periods of time in activities that interest them. They develop the key skills required for their future learning and eventual move to school. For example, children learn how to count and use mathematical language, such as 'big' and 'small', to show that they understand position and space in their play. Children have good opportunities to extend their early writing skills. For example, they make marks with their wet hands on a tray and talk about them. Children are confident communicators and socialise well with others.
