This provision is good
Children are making good progress in their early communication and social skills. The childminder provides meaningful conversation and introduces new words and phrases. This helps all children, including those who speak English as an additional language to make good progress in their learning. The childminder makes good use of observations and assessments to plan for children's future learning. She uses her good knowledge of each child to help them make progress in their learning. The childminder has made good improvements since her last inspection. Together with support from her local authority, she has successfully implemented actions to drive improvement. She has increased the frequency of her observations and improved the opportunities for parents to contribute to their children's starting points. The childminder develops good relationships with children. She understands their individual needs well. Children are very happy in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use the views of parents and children in driving improvements in the setting as part of her evaluation of the provision. The childminder has not fully explored professional training opportunities to further develop her teaching practice.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas used by the children. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and members of her household. The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is well informed about child protection procedures and knows who to contact should she have a safeguarding concern. She has a good knowledge of the signs of abuse and understands the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder observes children during activities, accurately assesses their progress and identifies the next steps in their learning. Regular monitoring of progress supports her to take swift action to close any gaps in children's learning and development. The childminder supports parents to view their children's records regularly, continue to support learning at home and to build on their children's achievements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are given a wide range of interesting activities and experiences. The childminder builds on what children already know and can do well. Activities successfully engage children's attention and interests and support their concentration skills well. Resources are well organised so that children have plenty of choices. The childminder talks to children as they play, uses clear and simple words encouraging and supporting their ongoing language development. She skilfully feeds in new vocabulary in the home languages of children, repeating words and phrases to clarify speech and the expression of ideas. Rhymes and songs are enjoyed by children. They demonstrate their enjoyment by spontaneously singing during their play. Early mathematical skills are promoted well. Children recognise shapes, numbers and colours, and match these when completing puzzles, learning through trial and error and exploring their ideas in play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive good attention from the childminder and are treated with warmth and respect. They settle well and quickly have their individual needs met. The childminder is a very good role model. She places emphasis on giving positive praise to children for their efforts. This helps to promote their self-confidence and sense of self-esteem. She encourages good manners and has high expectations of good behaviour. Social and physical skills develop well and children learn to respect each other's differences. The childminder talks to children about holding hands when walking near the road and staying safe when crossing the road. This helps to build their awareness of their surroundings and learn to consider risks that are close to them. The childminder provides children with a good range of healthy meals and snacks, and promotes a positive attitude towards different types of food. She exchanges information daily with parents regarding their

children's routines and eating habits. This keeps parents fully aware of their child's day with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are working comfortably in the range of development typical for their age. They develop their early mathematical, reading and writing skills and show positive attitudes towards learning. This helps them to be well prepared for their next steps in learning and when appropriate, for starting school.
