This provision is good
Children have extremely strong bonds with the childminder and they feel very secure in the homely environment. The childminder is a good role model. She manages their behaviour effectively and according to the age and stage of each child's development. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She uses this knowledge effectively to help her plan activities that are enjoyable, capture children's interests and are suitably challenging. The childminder provides a wide range of opportunities for children to learn about diversity. This encourages them to respect and value each other's differences. Children enjoy their play and show an eagerness to learn. The childminder joins in with their play, sensitively supporting and encouraging them. Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder uses self-evaluation effectively to help identify strengths in her practice

and to target areas for development. This contributes to a positive impact on children who benefit from very good learning experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always fully support children to build on their independence skills, such as involving them in preparing and serving of food or drinks at meal times. The childminder is not always successful in engaging all parents to share information about their children's learning at home, to help her support children's learning further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and the children while they were playing. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including records relating to children and safeguarding procedures. The inspector talked with the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection and held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of children's play, learning and progress. The inspector sampled parents' letters to gain their views about the childminding provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong understanding of child protection issues and knows what action to take should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She supports children's safety and well-being effectively. For example, she carries out regular risk assessments, to help enable children to play in a safe environment. She also teaches children the importance of fire drills to help them learn what they should do in an event of an emergency. The childminder continually updates her skills. For example, she accessed training to develop her knowledge on working with children with specific and challenging needs and changed her practice accordingly to be more inclusive. She works closely with parents and other professionals. She obtains their views on the service that she provides, to help develop her practice and build on consistency in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have great fun as they play and learn. The childminder places a strong focus on helping children to develop their communication and language skills. For example, she uses commentary and questions that challenge children to think and encourage them to speak. Children enjoy creative activities. For example, they investigate using art beads and confidently press and squeeze them between their fingers to create various patterns and colours on a template. They demonstrate a sense of pride in their achievements and compliment each other's work. The childminder completes good-quality assessments that help her to clearly identify areas to work on, so she can progress children's learning and development. She makes precise reviews of the children's learning and quickly identifies and reduces any weaknesses in children's development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's very warm and caring approach helps children to feel relaxed. She creates a good learning environment and has a wide range of good-quality play equipment and toys, which includes household and home-made items. The childminder successfully uses her garden and local play areas to help build on children's physical skills. The childminder attends groups with other childminders and their children. These sessions positively help support children to develop their social skills of sharing, taking turns and learning to respect each other. The childminder provides children with nutritious meals and teaches them about healthy diets.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are prepared successfully for the next step in their development. For example, they make decisions about their play and they select resources and work with the childminder to decide on what activities they wish to carry out. This helps children with their future move on to nursery and school.
