This provision is good

 The childminder, along with her co-childminder, provides a happy and nurturing environment where children develop positive relationships.  The childminder enables children to easily make choices in their play that are relevant to their ages and abilities. She encourages children to explore and make good progress in their development.  The childminder encourages children's physical development effectively. For example, children enjoy garden play with a variety of equipment and outings to local parks to use larger apparatus. They also enjoy nature walks.  The childminder encourages children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. Children learn about washing their hands before they eat and know why they need to wear sun cream and drink lots of water in hot weather.  The childminder monitors the children's progress carefully, and investigates and closes any gaps in their learning, to ensure they continue to progress well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not take all opportunities to enable children to easily concentrate and listen, to fully support their learning.  Children do not have consistent opportunities to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others, to help them learn about diversity.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 create more opportunities for children to concentrate and listen during everyday activities, to further develop their learning potential  increase opportunities for children to learn more about the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector toured the premises and viewed resources with the co-childminder.  The inspector observed the children and the childminder at play and discussed the activities with the childminder.  The inspector examined the records and documents provided by the childminder.  The inspector took account of the comments made by parents.  The inspector discussed the self-evaluation process with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder provides a good-quality service for children and families. Along with her co-childminder she reflects on her practice and seeks the views of parents and children to continually improve the provision. The childminder has completed mandatory training and constantly develops her knowledge. This has a positive impact on her teaching and the quality of the service that children experience. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with new information and legislation. She knows the process to follow if she has concerns about the welfare of children and families.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of the early years foundation stage. She plans activities and provides toys and resources that interest and engage the children. For example, she encourages children's learning as they look for items and match them to picture cards as they walk to and from the nursery. This increases the children's awareness of the world around them and their ability to match and solve problems. The childminder gets to know children well and happily joins in with their play to extend their learning. For example, she patiently shows children how to blow bubbles and how to try to catch them. The childminder monitors children's progress closely to identify the next steps in their learning. She shares her observations with parents to help them support their children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is sensitive to the individual needs of the children. For example, she ensures settling-in time is a positive experience for both parents and children. She helps to create a firm base from which children can develop and learn. She ensures sleep routines are followed and finds out about children's favourite toys and comforters. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder is a positive role model who provides clear and consistent expectations of behaviour. Children demonstrate a developing awareness of turn taking, sharing and understanding the needs of others. The childminder praises children for their positive actions to encourage their self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good developmental progress. They are prepared well for the next stages in their learning at nursery or school. Children show that they are happy and settled as they confidently explore and ask questions. For example, they line up cars and talk about what is happening, enjoy doing puzzles and show increasing awareness of shapes and numbers.
