Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection issues. She is very skilled at evaluating the quality of her setting. This has helped her create a really exciting learning environment that supports children's development and learning across the curriculum. Children are really well prepared and ready for their move to school. For example, children have impressive levels of independence and make lots of decisions and choices, particularly as they play outside. The childminder plans to improve her setting further by teaching children more about making healthy choices in relation to food. The childminder has very strong relationships with parents, other settings and professionals. This helps children experience great continuity in their learning. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Children constantly explore and discover new things. For example, they have great fun as they play with colourful jelly balls in water. They work out the best way to transport them and they solve problems together. The childminder has developed a range of activities that really motivates children to learn. For example, children try to release toy animals from ice. They make predictions and think carefully about the best way to do it. Children are completely enthralled as the ice is melted by salt and the animals start to appear. Children experience lots of challenge and success as they play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children play in a very settled and happy way, and their behaviour is great. For example, as children work together to decorate play dough with coloured glass pebbles, they help each other make patterns and find new amounts and totals. The childminder is expert at extending children's ideas and understanding. For example, children engage in an elaborate role-play game and the childminder introduces reasons for them to write shopping lists and use money. Children get lots of fresh air and sunshine, and spend prolonged periods playing outdoors. Children make very positive relationships with each other and with the childminder. This helps them feel confident and ready to learn.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make superb progress in their literacy; for example, they often record their ideas as they play. They are settled, involved and well behaved. Children are tolerant and respectful. They act with kindness and consideration towards others. Children are exceptionally well prepared for their next stage of learning.
