This provision is good
The childminder is experienced and well qualified. She has a good focus on her professional development and this has a positive impact on children's learning. The childminder skilfully interacts with children during activities. This helps children to become motivated learners who make good progress in their development. Children are happy and settled with the childminder. They form secure attachments and positive relationships, which effectively promotes their emotional well-being. The childminder provides children with a variety of balanced meals and snacks to support their understanding of a healthy diet and lifestyle. She pays particular attention to those with allergies, in order to help her effectively support children's individual needs. Children's behaviour is managed effectively by the childminder as she uses a calm and consistent approach. She acts as a good role model as she reinforces appropriate

behaviour and provides children with clear explanations.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not explored a wide enough range of methods to help support parents to extend their children's learning at home. Although the childminder gathers key words from parents, she has not yet considered further innovative ways to support children whose first language is not English.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector took into account the written views of parents. The inspector discussed self-evaluation and how the views of parents and children are included to drive improvement. The inspector observed play and learning opportunities for children and carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning documentation and a range of other records, including policies and procedures and evidence of qualifications and suitability of household members.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the possible signs that would alert her to children at risk of harm. She knows the procedure to follow if she has concerns about a child. The childminder gathers the views of parents to help her identify and make improvements that have a positive impact on children's learning and outcomes. She has worked hard to address the actions and recommendations raised at the last inspection. For example, the childminder works closely with other settings that children attend to share relevant information. She has developed links with the local primary schools, which helps to prepare children for school and contributes towards continuity in their learning. The childminder has contact with the local authority and works closely with other childminders in the local area to share ideas and discuss good practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments on children. She uses this information to highlight their achievements and identify the next steps in their learning. The childminder fulfils her responsibility for completing the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. The childminder collects detailed information from parents about children's particular interests and their stages of development during the settling-in period. This enables her to plan appropriate activities that meet children's individual needs. The childminder listens carefully to children, engages them in constant discussion and asks relevant questions throughout their activities. This effectively supports children to use their thinking skills. Children develop good mathematical skills. For example, the childminder discusses quantity and sizes and helps older children to count as they make and manipulate play dough. Children show high
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder regularly praises children to reinforce their positive actions, which helps to raise their self-esteem. She places an emphasis on children's physical development. For example, they have daily opportunities for outdoor play and exercise. The childminder attends daily community groups in the local area and plans regular outings with children. This helps to support their personal, social and emotional development, as they learn to mix with other children and adults in a range of different environments. The childminder talks about the importance of safety throughout children's daily routines. For example, children learn about road safety and understand they need to wear sun cream when it is hot outside.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working well within the typical range of development expected for their age. They independently access their own resources, tidy up after activities and help with preparing snacks. Children are confident and are acquiring the dispositions and skills they need for school.
