This provision is good

 The childminder continuously evaluates her practice with a view to developing the service she provides. She has successfully addressed the actions and recommendation raised at the previous inspection. The childminder and her assistants work very well together. They accurately identify and promote children's next steps in learning.  Children are very happy and demonstrate that they feel secure and settled with the childminder and her assistants. Babies enjoy their cuddles and are ready to resume their play after they wake happily from their sleep. They squeal with delight as the childminder shows them how to make different sounds by blowing on their hands.  The well-qualified childminder takes children on a range of outings in the community. They visit local farms and a wide range of shops. Children have immense fun petting the animals and learning about different occupations. This helps them to develop a

good understanding of the world.  The childminder provides children with consistent, clear boundaries appropriate to their age in a calm manner. This helps them to behave very well and understand how to keep themselves safe. Children are confident, use good manners and build strong relationships with children of all ages.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, children are not given enough time to think about and respond to the childminder's enthusiastic questioning.  Opportunities for parents to support and share information about their children's learning and development at home are not fully explored.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to enhance their thinking and speaking skills as they formulate answers and respond to questions posed during their play  extend the good communications with parents, exploring ways for them to share information about their children's learning and development at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during outdoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistants and children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly discussed this with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a selection of policies, safety procedures and required documentation. She discussed children's observations and their stage of learning and development with the childminder.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistants.  The inspector spoke to a parent during the inspection and also took account of the written views of other parents.  The inspector reviewed how the childminder evaluates her setting to continually improve outcomes for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistants know how to swiftly meet children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. They keep accurate records of all children's accidents and share these with parents on the same day. This helps to support children's welfare and any ongoing care, if required. The childminder manages her assistants' performance through individual informal supervision meetings. Training needs are identified and there is strong commitment to continuous professional development. The childminder has recently completed a leadership and management qualification at level 3. This has provided her with a deeper understanding of a range of methods to monitor and support her assistants' practice. The childminder carefully reviews the learning programmes to ensure that any gaps in children's learning are swiftly addressed. Parents appreciate the ongoing detailed feedback they receive from the

childminder of their children's learning and development. Secure partnership working with other settings that children attend effectively supports their continuity in learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's consistent praise motivates children to complete challenging activities. They use their vivid imaginations to create a pizza using a rice cake topped with a range of fruit, cereals and whipped cream. The childminder introduces children to mathematical ideas in a fun and engaging way. They persevere at using a knife to cut their pretend pizza in half and then in to quarters. Babies wallow in their play. They use their whole body to explore the sensation of cream on their skin. The childminder introduces them to new words, such as sticky and slimy and consistently responds to their babbles. This helps them to learn new words in context to their play and the pattern of conversation. Older children explain why the consistency of the cream has changed. All children have fun splashing in water mixed with soap. They demonstrate good control and coordination as they create a circular shape with their fingers and carefully blow to create bubbles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy a healthy lifestyle and mealtimes are a very positive experience for all. The childminder and her assistants encourage children to independently open packets in their lunchboxes, they monitor their eating and talk to them about healthy foods. They help children to understand the importance of drinking lots of water on warm days and wearing a hat to protect them from the sun. Children are excited to join in with active music and movement sessions that challenge their physical capabilities and coordination. Babies develop strength in preparation for walking. They independently move around the furniture and practise making their first steps holding on to the childminder's hand.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress in their learning given their starting points. Staff successfully promote children's literacy skills. Children begin linking letters to sounds and are able to sound out the letters of their name. Babies develop curiosity and positive attitudes towards learning. This helps to prepare them well for their next stage of learning and the eventual move on to school.
