This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder makes accurate observations of children at play and closely monitors the progress they make. She tailors planned activities to match children's individual learning needs and those who need extra support catch up quickly in their learning.  The childminder has fully addressed actions and recommendations raised at her last inspection and demonstrates a strong capacity for continuous improvement. She works with her assistant, parents and children to identify priorities for future developments.  The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being effectively. Children settle quickly into her care and demonstrate confidence and a sense of belonging in the appealing and welcoming environment.  Children approach activities with enthusiasm and become engaged in their learning. This helps to foster a positive attitude that helps to prepare them for more formal

education when they move on to school.  The childminder has established successful partnerships with other settings. She shares information about children's developments with the new setting. This helps to support children at times of change and prepares them well for the next stage in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, the childminder gives the youngest children too much direction during art and craft activities. They do not always have enough opportunities to freely explore and investigate a variety of media and materials.  The childminder does not always fully promote children's problem-solving skills. Sometimes, she is too quick to help children when they encounter difficulties during activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2

Due Date

 ensure that the required suitability checks are completed for all persons caring for children, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check through Ofsted. 26/08/2016

p.2

Due Date

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Due Date

 provide younger children with more opportunities to freely explore and investigate a variety of materials, tools and techniques and experiment with colour, design and texture  allow children plenty of time to persevere and encourage them to find their own solutions when they encounter difficulties and promote their problem-solving skills to the highest levels.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed joint observations with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the required written policies and procedures and evidence of the suitability of people living and working on the premises.  The inspector looked at written feedback from parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is qualified and committed to building on her skills and experience. She has developed effective arrangements for the supervision and support of her assistant, who also continues with their professional development. This contributes further to the childminder's capacity to build on her already good provision. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has updated her policies and procedures and has secure knowledge of all aspects of safeguarding. Effective strategies help to ensure children are safe in her home and when playing outdoors. The childminder is diligent and completes all the required suitability checks for people who assist her in the care of younger children. However, she has not completed all required suitability checks for a family member who occasionally assists her with the collection of older children from school. The childminder shares information with parents and other settings children

attend. This helps to provide a consistent approach to supporting children's progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a good range of activities and experiences that appeals to children's interests and promotes their progress in all areas of learning. There is an effective balance of planned activities and opportunities for children to make choices, lead their own play and develop their ideas. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills effectively. She shares ideas with them as they play and gives them lots of time to respond to her skilful questions. Older children have lots of opportunities to develop their creative skills. For example, they make characters of their own design from a range of craft materials. The childminder teaches children about numbers, counting, shape and size as they make animals from dough. This helps to promote their mathematical development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children learn about the importance of keeping themselves safe and healthy. For example, they understand why they must wash their hands. The childminder provides a very good range of resources and activities that helps children learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. This helps them to understand about the cultures and beliefs of people in their own community and in the wider world. The childminder encourages children to share and take turns. This helps them to understand the needs and feelings of others and contributes to their good behaviour. Children benefit from regular fresh air and exercise which help to promote their physical well-being. The childminder gives children small tasks which they take pride in completing. This helps to foster their growing independence in preparation for when they start school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those in receipt of early years funding, enjoy their learning, make good progress and achieve well. Some children are working above the range of development typical for their age. As children approach the time to move on to school, they develop a good range of key skills in literacy and mathematics. For instance, they practise forming the letters in their name as they take part in mark-making activities. This helps to prepare them for future learning.
