The childminder works well in partnership with parents to meet children's needs. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively, and uses the contributions that children and parents provide to make improvements. The childminder has developed effective systems for assessing children's progress. She has a good knowledge of children's interests and next steps in learning. She uses these successfully to move children forward in their learning. The childminder is effective in helping children develop their language and communication skills. For example, she models listening carefully to what they have to say and learns words in children's home languages. The childminder supports children's physical development well. She places younger children's favourite toys at a distance away from them to encourage their movement towards them. The childminder helps children to develop their early mathematical language. For example, she sings number rhymes as she plays with them.

The childminder helps children to learn about staying safe. She teaches them carefully about road safety and potential dangers when they go out, and practises regular fire drills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and develop good communication skills. For example, younger children convey their ideas and wishes clearly when choosing to go outside to play. Older children gain the key skills they need for school, such as good literacy skills. Babies are well prepared for the next stage. They gain an early love of books, and point with interest at the different pictures. Children develop good social skills and are happy to involve others in their play.
