This provision is good
The childminder provides a secure, safe and friendly environment, which helps children to settle in quickly. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively and knows her strengths and weaknesses. She has successfully improved her provision since the last inspection. For example, children now have increased opportunities to make their own choices. The childminder establishes good relationships with parents and involves them fully in their children's learning. For example, she seeks information about what their children already know and can do and shares information about their progress and any gaps in their development. The childminder acts as a good role model. Children learn to behave well and respect others around them. They are confident and have high levels of self-esteem. The childminder updates her professional practice. For example, she reads the latest updates about legal requirements and researches new approaches to childcare.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Young babies do not always have enough opportunities to take part in play experiences that further develop their curiosity and creativity. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to help children find out about technology and how things work.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and the children throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the parents' views and comments by reading their feedback questionnaires. The inspector jointly observed children engaged in activities with the childminder and discussed their learning outcomes. The inspector examined a range of documentation including the childminder's paediatric first aid certificate, current public liability insurance, risk assessments, improvement plans, the attendance register, children's records and policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder can identify concerns that may indicate a child is at risk of harm and report these to the appropriate agencies. She carries out regular safety risk assessments indoors and on trips to ensure children's safety and well-being. She maintains adult-child ratios requirements at all times and supervises children well. The childminder effectively builds links with teaching staff to support children's move on to school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She observes and assesses their abilities effectively and uses this information to plan for their future development. The childminder uses good teaching methods to engage children. She communicates well with the children, adapting how she interacts according to their ages and stages of development. For example, she offers older children continuous conversation and discussion and uses her facial expressions and tone of voice to communicate with young babies. Children develop good communication and language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows the children very well; they are very attached to her and they fully enjoy her company. She is always positive and encouraging towards them and this helps them to feel secure and make progress. Children begin to understand the importance of healthy lifestyles. The childminder teaches them about healthy eating and ensures that they have daily exercise. Children attend to their own personal needs and follow good hygiene routines. They develop a sense of their own safety. For example, they learn about road safety when walking to and from school. Children learn about the wider world. For example, they are familiar with the local environment and places of interest which they walk to daily.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. They increasingly develop their physical skills; they are well coordinated, agile and balance well. Children successfully gain good problem-solving skills, as well as learning about shape, size and space. They complete many complex puzzles. Children enjoy learning about literacy. They request to be read to and enjoy predicting the storyline, showing enthusiasm and interest. They are independent and confident, and are well prepared for school and moving to other settings.
