This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and well-maintained environment where children make choices in their play. They show high levels of confidence as they move between the different play areas and activities. The childminder has made good progress since her last inspection. She has changed the way she records children's next steps in learning to make sure they are specific to each child. Children make good progress in all areas of learning and development. The childminder is committed to developing her skills and knowledge to support her professional development. For example, she attended a training course on managing children's behaviour and uses the strategies effectively. Children behave well. They are very polite and share the toys willingly. The childminder is particularly skilled in supporting and developing children's communication and language. She becomes actively involved in their imaginative play

and children thoroughly enjoy talking to her about what they are doing.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always work effectively with other early years settings that children attend to share information and establish a consistent approach to children's learning. The childminder does not consistently involve parents in their children's ongoing learning and sharing their children's achievements at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen the procedures for sharing information with other early years settings children attend, to ensure consistency in children's learning and development develop methods to encourage parents to share children's achievements at home to inform the ongoing planning of their next steps for learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings. The inspector observed the childminder and children in the various play areas, including the garden. The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation, including self-evaluation documents and children's learning records. The inspector used parents' written feedback to gain their views about the provision. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder monitors and evaluates her provision effectively. She uses information from early years professionals and the internet, for example, to keep up to date with any relevant changes. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear on the procedures to follow should she have any concerns with a child's welfare. The childminder monitors the educational programmes to make sure that all children progress well. For example, she uses clear tracking documents that identify next steps and progress in all areas of learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses effective teaching methods to support children's learning. She actively engages in children's play, taking her lead from them. For example, children pretend to be superheroes and firefighters. The childminder talks about how they are putting out the pretend fires and what superheroes have for lunch. The childminder completes regular and detailed observations to enable her to plan the next steps in children's learning. For example, planning how to support children in their mathematical development by learning different numbers and recognising their similarities. The childminder gathers information from parents about children's achievements at home prior to them starting, to help her initial planning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children build secure attachments with the childminder. She is warm in her approach and they clearly feel confident in her care. Children know and understand the simple rules and boundaries, which help them to behave well and stay safe. For example, children know they need to tidy away the toys before getting others out, to make sure they do not trip. Children follow good hygiene routines and, since the last inspection, the childminder has improved this area. Children enjoy regular trips to the park and the childminder helps them to choose where they would like to go depending on what they like to play with. For example, children excitedly talk about going to the splash pool, and a park that has a pirate ship and a sandpit.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and well prepared for the next stage in their learning or the move to school. They show high levels of independence and are confident to share their ideas. They talk with the childminder about how they are going to construct a road and use bridges. Children thoroughly enjoy following current news stories, such as the astronauts in a space station. They have emailed some questions and are eagerly awaiting a response.
