Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of her role. For example, she successfully reviews and implements new policies to keep her practice up to date. This contributes to the safe and efficient running of her provision. The childminder attends training and evaluates her practice well to make positive changes. For example, she has introduced a written format to help gain further information from parents about children's starting points. She effectively tracks children's progress and discusses plans for their next steps in learning. This contributes to her effective partnerships with parents and their engagement in the children's good progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities and is knowledgeable about child protection procedures.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and balances activities with those led by children's interests. For example, children enthusiastically ask to draw and enjoy making various marks with different coloured pens. They choose pictures identified from their interests. They practise new skills, such as taking and putting the lids back on the pens which supports their hand-muscle development well. Children respond to the childminder's frequent interactions and questions. The childminder teaches children about the living world. For example, she follows their curiosity and keen interest in nature as they observe and talk about the stick insects.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy, relaxed and enjoy the childminder's positive interactions. Their suggestions are valued as they engage in activities to support their health and well-being. For example, outings, and physical games planned to support their physical coordination, as part of a mini Olympics celebration. Children enjoy nutritious fruit snack choices and are frequently reminded to help themselves to their drinks. They engage in good handwashing routines. The childminder is an effective role model who helps children to learn about safe procedures. For example, she explains the need to increase their awareness of sun safety in summer and encourages them to wear hats and sun cream.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and are well prepared for their next stage in learning and for school. They are sociable and demonstrate increasing interest and concentration at the activities. They show a good interest in books and are introduced to letter sounds. They use language confidently to share their knowledge of what they see. They are familiar with numbers and counting. They show growing independence with their personal care.
