Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children inside and outside. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, including policies, qualification certificates and children's records. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector took account of written comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder closely supervises children as they play in the house and garden. Safeguarding policies and procedures are evident in practice and the childminder acts swiftly if she has concerns about a child's welfare or development. The childminder monitors children's progress and development and is starting to effectively identify any gaps in learning. The childminder is committed to updating her professional knowledge. For example, she accesses a range of training to increase her knowledge and improve children's outcomes. She regularly shares ideas and knowledge with other childminders.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of what children need to learn next. She carefully observes and plans enjoyable activities to support their individual interests and needs. For example, she models words for them, encouraging them to repeat and increase their use of these to develop confident language skills. Children engage well in the range of activities on offer. For example, they refer to a favourite story as they mix their own potions. Children use a range of equipment to transport water, developing their mathematical language as they fill and empty containers. They learn about similarities and differences as they compare creatures they find on their bug hunts.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are warmly welcomed into the setting. They are clearly happy, confident and motivated to learn. The childminder provides good levels of care and meets children's emotional and physical needs well. Children form strong emotional bonds with the childminder and go to her for help, support and comfort. The childminder helps children to develop independence. For example, they help prepare their healthy snacks. The childminder gathers good-quality information from parents when children start in the setting to provide continuity of care and to support learning and development. This helps children to settle quickly and feel comfortable, safe and secure. Children get plenty of exercise as they visit local parks and soft-play centres. The childminder supports them well to learn about making healthy choices and keeping themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress from their starting points and are acquiring skills in readiness for their next stage in learning, including starting school. They demonstrate good levels of confidence in their abilities and take pride in their achievements. Children have opportunities to practise their early writing skills and are encouraged to count during play activities. They enjoy sharing books and demonstrate good levels of concentration when listening to stories.
