This provision is good
The childminder is very focused on helping children learn to behave appropriately, share and take turns. Children benefit from attending a variety of toddler groups and they enjoy making friends. Children effectively develop their independence. They choose from the extensive range of interesting play resources stored within their easy reach. They develop their imaginations as they use the play resources for a variety of purposes. Parents comment on the warm, welcoming, home-from-home environment enjoyed by their children. They state that children settle with confidence, are extremely happy and are at ease in the childminder's care. This well-qualified childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to continually developing her skills and improving the outcomes for children. She has made good progress since her last inspection.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not seek out information from other settings that children also attend to help inform the assessments made of their progress. As a result, she cannot be sure her assessments are as accurate as possible. The childminder does not always give children time to think for themselves and to share their own ideas and thoughts.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

seek information from other settings that children also attend to help make the assessments of what children know and can do as accurate as possible focus more strongly on giving children time to think, consider and share their own ideas and thoughts.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults living and working on the premises. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of the views of parents from their written comments provided by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her understanding of child protection procedures. She attends training events and seeks information through her discussions with other childminders. She knows the action to take to keep children safe and protect them from harm. The childminder has successfully addressed the actions from her previous inspection. She understands the importance of maintaining the correct adult- to-child ratios and knows when to notify Ofsted of any changes to her provision. The childminder seeks the views of parents and other early years practitioners to effectively evaluate her practice. Parents state that children are making progress in their learning as expected for their age. Policies and procedures are regularly updated and shared with parents to keep them well informed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses the good progress children are making. She uses the information to identify what they need to learn next. Interesting activities are well planned to help motivate children to learn. Children develop their physical skills as they explore dried pasta using tongs and scoops. They use some mathematical language as they describe containers as being little or big. Children particularly enjoy pretend play. They interact well with adults as they pretend to make lunch and a cup of tea. The childminder skilfully extends children's vocabulary. She introduces them to new descriptive words as they put pasta into plastic bottles. Children develop their self-esteem as they receive constant praise for their efforts and achievements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder takes time to get to know the children and their families well. Her good knowledge of children's interests, likes and dislikes helps children to move from home into her care with confidence. Children demonstrate that they feel safe and emotionally secure. They show interest as they interact with visitors to the provision, such as the inspector. Children learn about the world in which they live as they explore events, such as the Queen's Birthday and Australia Day. Daily routines and activities help children understand the importance of eating healthy foods and getting lots of fresh air and exercise. Children are learning to keep themselves and others safe as they are encouraged to tidy away resources when they have finished playing.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the skills they need for the next stage in their learning and for school when the time comes. They develop their independence as they dress to go outdoors and peel and cut fruit to eat at snack time. Children's early writing skills are promoted as they make marks using different materials, such as crayons, chalks and paint. They are becoming confident speakers as they recall events from home. Children are learning the importance of listening to each other and respecting the needs of others.
