Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector spoke to a small group of parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including the childminders policies and procedures, as well as observation and assessment documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder works closely with a co-childminder. She demonstrates a secure understanding of how to ensure children are in a safe and secure environment where their needs are met to a high standard. The childminder is proactive in identifying areas for improvement that are based on directly improving the outcomes for children. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder sets high expectations for children in her care and works closely with parents and other settings to establish a two- way flow of information. The childminder monitors and promotes children's progress effectively. This is because assessments of children are in depth and focused and allow her to identify areas to be further extended.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder sensitively interacts with children and encourages them to be independent learners and take pride in their achievements. The indoor and outdoor environment provides a wide range of exciting activities that furthers children's learning. The childminder knows all children well and plans activities that are based around their interests and learning styles. As a result, children engage well and are eager to join in. The childminder has successfully developed strategies to fully include parents, who contribute regularly to their children's learning. The childminder allows children to lead their own play and uses their own ideas to further their learning. Children have lots of opportunities to mark make and to be creative. They use their imagination, such as when they pretend to be a mechanic and explore the tool kit.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and behave very well. They show good social skills from a young age and have formed friendships with others. The childminder sets clear boundaries for children to learn about how to be safe and to be considerate of others. Children demonstrate that they feel emotionally secure and have formed positive attachments with the childminder. Children settle quickly and are keen to learn. The childminder responds well to younger children's cues and helps them to understand and process their emotions. Children are encouraged to talk about their lives and to embrace each other's differences, as well as learning about the wider community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
