Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as self-evaluation, training and evidence of suitability. The inspector took account of the views of parents using the childminder's own records. The inspector spoke to the children at appropriate times during the inspection.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder's quality of teaching is first class and she is dedicated to ensuring each child makes the most possible progress whilst in her care. She uses assessment extremely effectively to plan challenging and imaginative activities which are very well suited to children's individual interests and needs. The childminder interacts superbly with children during their play. She models language and offers suggestions. This helps her ignite children's imagination, extend their language skills and understanding of mathematical concepts. For example, the children can identify and have learnt the names of dinosaurs and insects. They can explain the creation of a butterfly, naming each stage without prompts from the childminder. They talk about the size, shape and weight of insects and children consider how it would feel to carry a house on your back like a snail. The childminder provides splendid opportunities to learn about creatures as children discover a

spider outdoors. They closely examine it and listen intently to the childminder who recalls facts about spiders that they have previously learnt. They are excited to watch the worms feed and move in the newly erected worm house.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children benefit hugely from the childminder's excellent, calm modelling of how to play, care and learn happily together. The childminder knows the children so well that she swiftly identifies changes in their behaviour, which leads to a highly accurate understanding of their emotional needs and excellent support. Superbly planned, consistent routines significantly contribute to their excellent behaviour and impressive levels of independence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children thrive in the childminder's care. They become highly motivated learners who think critically about how to use the many interesting natural materials to enhance their play ideas. Younger children enjoy excellent story times, where they show great delight in turning the pages and naming the mini-beasts they see. The children consider similarities and differences when they see the pictures of an earwig, and they discuss why it looks like a lobster or a scorpion. All children make outstanding progress in their development and are extremely confident and motivated to learn. All these wonderful experiences have provided children with an abundance of skills that will support them in their future learning and when they start school.
