This provision is good
Children form warm relationships with the childminder. They settle in quickly and enjoy her company. This provides a secure emotional base from which they gain social skills and build relationships with others, such as friendships with other children. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's progress, and generally provides a wide range of activities and play opportunities that promotes their overall development. Children make good progress from their individual starting points. The partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend are successful. The childminder works closely with other adults involved in children's care and learning, to encourage consistent experiences to meet children's individual needs. The childminder has a positive attitude to developing her practice. She continually strengthens her skills and knowledge, and improves outcomes for children. For

example, she plans to attend training to gain a greater understanding of the use of signs to communicate with children who do not talk in particular.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not consistently have access to highly stimulating outdoor learning opportunities that encourage and support the needs of children who learn best when outdoors. The childminder does not make best use of all opportunities to encourage children's understanding of numbers and counting, to extend their mathematical development.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the play areas and resources, and observed the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector took account of the views of children and their parents through written feedback. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's learning records, training certificates and risk assessments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a robust knowledge of child protection issues and knows her responsibility to protect children from harm. She regularly reviews risk assessments of her home, and plans and considers safety factors well for children's outings. The childminder carefully monitors children's progress to check that children's progress is at least good. She considers the effectiveness of her teaching and plans interesting activities that link to what children know and can do. She successfully involves parents in children's learning, such as producing regular written reports of children's progress, to enable complementary learning experiences at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder establishes children's starting points effectively, such as by working with parents before children first attend to identify their current skills and understanding. She plans appropriately challenging activities from the start. She uses her secure knowledge of individual children and their developmental levels to build effectively on their abilities. For instance, she creates a cosy area in the garden for children who prefer to play inside, so that they can benefit from fresh air while participating in activities that they enjoy. The childminder effectively supports children's developing speech and language. For example, she clearly models pronunciation of different sounds and extends children's discussions skilfully. Children confidently share their thoughts and ideas, such as when recalling their previous experiences from photographs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder enthusiastically praises children's efforts and achievements, and routinely offers children choices, which helps them to develop good confidence and self-esteem. Children behave well they learn to share and take turns with their friends. The childminder encourages children's personal independence well. For example, all children use cutlery to feed themselves at mealtimes, and toddlers know to get a tissue and try to wipe their own noses when required. The childminder effectively helps children to learn about keeping themselves healthy. For example, they have regular opportunities to play outside in the fresh air and enjoy the healthy meals she provides.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning, and develop key skills in readiness for their eventual move to school. They are confident, motivated and enthusiastic independent learners.
