This provision is good
The childminder has a gentle, caring and patient approach towards children, which contributes to supporting their emotional well-being. Children demonstrate a strong sense of belonging. They are confident to express their thoughts and follow their own ideas. The childminder interacts effectively to reinforce and develop children's language and social skills during their freely chosen activities. Regular outings in the local area successfully help support children to gain a good understanding of the natural world. They look at and listen to the sounds made by different animals while out walking. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of children's interests and individual needs. She uses this knowledge well to plan a range of appropriate activities to promote children's good progress in all areas of learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Partnerships with other settings children attend are not fully established. The childminder does not take sufficient steps towards a shared approach to promoting children's learning and development. There are not enough opportunities for children to develop their awareness of how they differ from or are similar to other people, and to enhance their awareness and understanding of diversity.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including policies, evidence of the suitability of household members, observation and assessment documentation, and the safeguarding procedures. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector talked to the childminder about her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder checks her home before children arrive to identify and minimise any potential hazards. The childminder regularly refreshes her safeguarding training. This supports her to maintain a good knowledge of how to report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder understands her role in supervising her assistant. She has a desire to continuously improve the quality of the service she provides. The childminder is aware of the strengths of her provision and areas she wants to develop further. She forms strong relationships with parents and values their comments to support her evaluation. The childminder shares ideas with parents to support children's development and build on their learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children while playing. She makes effective use of what she knows about each child's abilities to specifically plan further learning experiences for them. The childminder is particularly effective in supporting children's good skills in listening and speaking and mathematics. She repeats words that younger children say to help support pronunciation and introduces new words to help extend their vocabulary. The childminder develops children's counting skills and encourages their interest in number and shape. For example, children enjoy categorising toys according to their colour, shape and size.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children to form appropriate bonds and secure attachments which help them to feel safe and secure in her care. She provides a range of toys and resources for children to explore independently. Children regularly attend group activities which help them to develop confidence in social situations. The childminder promotes good behaviour, for example, by reminding children to share resources and use good manners. Children are encouraged to develop a healthy lifestyle through daily routines. For example, they run and climb at the park and talk about why fruit is healthy at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They enjoy activities that help them to develop their early literacy skills. For example, they enjoy listening to stories with the childminder and retelling their favourite stories to her in their own way. They are confident to try new things and eager to develop new skills. Overall, children gain the necessary skills for future learning and for school.
