This provision is good
The childminder has made significant improvements since her last inspection. Consent has been gathered from parents for her assistant to have sole care of children for short periods of time. Key words are gained from parents of children who speak English as an additional language, and books reflect the different languages children speak. The childminder works closely with her assistant. Observations and assessments are used to identify children's future learning needs. The childminder plans a variety of play opportunities and learning experiences, taking account of the individual needs of children. Children enjoy being physically active. They have lots of opportunities to play outdoors and enjoy visiting local places of interest. Children play in a safe environment where potential risks have been identified and minimised. They learn about their own safety and follow clear routines when crossing

the road. The childminder and her assistant have a good awareness of their role in protecting children from abuse and neglect. They are committed to their ongoing professional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is sometimes quick to give children information when they are involved in activities, rather than encouraging them to think for themselves and share their own ideas. The childminder does not yet have robust systems in place for gathering the views of parents and children about the service they receive and using these to enhance her process of self-evaluation.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children more opportunities to think for themselves and share their own ideas during activities review procedures for seeking, evaluating and acting on the views of parents and children to enhance self-evaluation and drive continual improvement.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed an activity and discussed teaching methods with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults within the home and the childminder's assistant. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant are fully aware of the procedures to follow to raise a concern about a child in their care. The childminder has effective routines for monitoring the practice of her assistant and regular discussion ensures that new legislation and changes to practice are known. The childminder and her assistant take time to get to know children and their families. They use the information gathered from parents about their child to provide a service that effectively meets children's individual needs. The childminder takes good steps to ensure children remain safe. They regularly practise the emergency evacuation procedure so they are fully aware of the need to exit the house quickly and safely in the event of a fire.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant use their knowledge and experience of childcare to support children's learning and development. Secure routines for observing, assessing and planning for the next steps in learning are in place. Clear monitoring and tracking of progress enable potential gaps in learning to be quickly identified. Children are enthusiastic learners. They enjoy being creative and using different materials to make their own models. An example of this is painting different sized stones and adding legs using pipe cleaners to make them into ladybirds and bees. Children show perseverance when completing puzzles. They identify the pieces they need and take time to ensure they fit it correctly. Parents are actively involved in their children's learning. They share what their children are skilled at when they start with the childminder and she in turn shares their child's progress and ongoing development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form strong relationships with the childminder and her assistant. They spend time gradually becoming familiar with their new environment. Children behave well. They learn to share and take turns with the toys and are kind and considerate towards each other. The childminder supports children's confidence and self-esteem. Children enjoy a variety of freshly prepared meals and snacks each day. They understand the importance of washing their hands before meals and after messy play. Children spend time outdoors each day being physically active.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. Activities support their learning and they develop the key skills needed in readiness for the move to school. Children develop an awareness of how things grow and the role they play in supporting various plants and seeds to thrive and develop. Children learn to use tools correctly as they play and are aware of their own safety and that of others.
