This provision is good
The childminder has a clear knowledge of how children learn. For example, she plans activities based on children's interests and next steps in their learning. Children develop a range of skills that prepares them for their future learning. Children's behaviour is good. They play well together and learn to share and take turns. They speak to the childminder with respect and learn good manners. The childminder provides children with many opportunities for exercise. For example, children enjoy daily outings to the park and frequent walks in the local area. The childminder has good links with other settings children attend. She shares information with other professionals to help provide continuity in children's learning. The childminder reflects on her practice to help her identify further areas for improvement. Regular information is shared with parents about their children's progress. The childminder encourages parents to share information from home. This helps the

childminder to build on children's learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide a wide range of opportunities to help children learn about and respect the differences of other people and communities beyond their own. The childminder does not always include parents' views in the self-evaluation process to help identify areas for further improvements.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at convenient times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records, policies and procedures, and checked evidence of the suitability of all household members.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes regular safeguarding training and has a good understanding of her responsibilities to protect children from harm. She is aware of the steps to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder carries out effective risk assessment to minimise potential hazards. She shares her policies and procedures with parents to explain how she keeps children safe. The childminder continues to develop and improve her knowledge. For example, she completes training and meets with other childminders to share practice ideas.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and has a clear understanding of each child's development. She carries out regular observation and closely monitors their progress. This helps her to quickly identify and address any gaps in their learning. The childminder follows children's lead and supports their interests. Children show eagerness to try things for themselves. For example, children show determination when making their own pizza. The childminder supports children's communication and language well. For example, while children explore with dough, she uses words, such as 'squeeze', 'roll' and 'pull', to help extend their vocabulary. Furthermore, the childminder asks children questions as they play to help develop their thinking skills. For example, children learn about safety when using the oven during role play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. The childminder works closely with parents from the start to find out about children's care routines and interests, to help them settle and feel safe in her care. The childminder is a good role model and provides clear guidance for children about acceptable behaviour. She uses consistent praise and encouragement to help develop children's confidence and self-esteem. Children develop independence skills well. For example, they eagerly help to put toys away and make further choices in their play. The childminder supports children to develop an understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she encourages children to make healthy choices and provides nutritious meals and snacks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and develop the skills they need for the next stage in their learning. They are happy and confident in the childminder's care and have formed good relationships with each other. Children have many opportunities to practise their early literacy skills. For example, they enjoy writing food choices during pretend play. Children begin to learn about early mathematics, such as when they complete puzzles and count objects.
