This provision is good

 The childminder is committed to the children she cares for. She has high expectations for their learning and development and plans effectively for their individual needs.  The childminder has good systems in place for the observing, assessing and tracking of children's progress and she clearly identifies meaningful next steps.  The childminder focuses strongly on developing children's speaking and listening, social and physical skills. Children are making good progress.  The childminder has a close and caring relationship with the children. They readily seek her out and respond positively to her. This helps support their emotional well-being.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the best possible use of opportunities to explain to children about hygiene routines and their importance for health.  The childminder does not plan sufficiently carefully to avoid confusion for very young children between expectations at snack times and when using food items during activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve support for children's developing understanding of hygiene routines and awareness of why they take place  improve planning to ensure that younger children are helped to understand the difference between objects and foods used for creative activities and their real purposes.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the playroom, kitchen and outdoor area.  The inspector sampled children's assessment records, planning documentation and a range of other records, policies and procedures.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability, training certificates and her self-evaluation and improvement plans.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector and the childminder undertook a joint observation and discussed the children's learning while they were engaged in the activities.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has undertaken training and is very secure in her understanding of child protection and keeping children safe from harm. Supporting policies and procedures to keep children safe and secure are in place and implemented well. The evaluation of the provision is accurate and reflective with clear areas for continuous improvement. The childminder is qualified in teaching and uses her good knowledge and skills to support children's continued progression. There is a sharp focus on ensuring parents are fully included and their views are sought to complement the good learning taking place.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well and her accurate assessment of what they can do supports her in planning effectively to meet their individual needs. Additionally, information is sought from parents about what children already know to help her with this process. Many varied and challenging activities are provided for children. For example, children delight in splashing in the water, counting with the childminder and excitedly sing and dance to music. These types of activities support children's physical, social and language development. The childminder sensitively introduces colours, numbers and shapes as children play. They respond positively, attempting to name colours and counting appropriate to their young age. Children are helped to learn about the wider and natural world.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are becoming very independent and enjoy making choices about what they want to do. They enjoy the company of each other and the childminder, this helps support their feelings of being valued. Children are supported to tolerate and respect each other as the childminder sets consistent rules for behaviour with a sharp focus on sharing. The home is very welcoming and effective use of the good quality resources is made to support children's progress across all seven areas of learning. During outdoor play, children are developing an understanding of risk as they enjoy activities, such as climbing, sliding and riding wheeled toys. Children are active and keen learners who enjoy their time with the caring and calm childminder

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making consistently good progress across all areas of their development. They are confident and, considering their age, understand the expectations for behaviour. They are becoming independent and are learning to make decisions for themselves. Children are developing those skills necessary for the next stage in their learning and move to school.
