This provision is good
The childminder works well in partnership with others. She actively involves parents and other providers in contributing to children's learning records. This promotes consistency of care and learning for each child. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of how children learn and develop. She makes good use of what she knows about their learning styles and interests to plan stimulating activities. The childminder is calm and a positive role model for children. They listen carefully as she explains how to use equipment safely and show an understanding of the rules in place at the setting. Children have good relationships with the childminder. They eagerly engage her in play and seek her out for comfort or support when they require it. Children make typical progress from their individual starting points. They display good levels of concentration and positive attitudes towards learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not focus sharply enough on how her teaching skills can be further developed and enhanced through targeted professional development. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to help children cooperate and develop their ability to manage their feelings and behaviour.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector reviewed written feedback provided by parents to take their views into account. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of her suitability and qualifications. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of how to identify and report concerns to protect children from harm. She ensures that her home is safe through robust risk assessment procedures. The childminder maintains a range of documentation, such as registers of attendance and medicine forms, to contribute towards her practices in promoting children's health and safety. She seeks the opinions of parents and children as she devises plans for the further development of her setting. She has taken steps to address the issues identified at her last inspection.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder. She makes good use of observation and assessment, in partnership with parents, to plan interesting and stimulating activities. She successfully promotes children's development across all areas of learning. Children are imaginative and creative. They make puppets out of socks and a variety of craft materials. The childminder supports them to use tools for specific purposes and give meaning to their creations. Children name their puppets and take them on an adventure through the childminder's home. The childminder has high expectations of the children and what they can achieve. Overall, she encourages children to become involved in decision making processes well. Children's confidence increases as they make choices about what they would like to play with and where. They are responsive to the childminder's questions during play and activities. The childminder promotes children's early literacy skills well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's independence is well promoted. The childminder actively engages them in daily routines. She has organised the environment in a way which enables children to make independent choices. Older children manage their own personal hygiene needs well. Generally, children show they are responsive to the rules of the setting and they have a good awareness of how to keep themselves safe. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to help children understand why hygiene routines are important. Children know they should cover their mouth when they cough so that they do not spread germs. The childminder uses relevant and meaningful examples of diversity and difference to help children explore the world around them. Children explore their own faces in a mirror and notice similarities and differences between themselves and other adults. They are respectful of one another as they discuss this.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make typical progress in their development from their individual starting points. They are confident communicators and have a good level of concentration and engagement. Overall, children respond well to routines and group activities. They are developing the skills required to prepare them for the eventual move to school.
