This provision is inadequate
The provider fails to meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the associated requirements of the Childcare Register. The provider does not ensure that all new staff complete appropriate suitability checks and vetting procedures at the start of employment, to ensure they are suitable to work with children. The provider does not ensure that staff are aware of their responsibility to disclose any information that may affect their suitability to work with children. This puts children's welfare at significant risk. The provider has not updated the safeguarding children policy. She has not kept her own and the staff's knowledge of safeguarding children issues up to date, particularly if an allegation is made against a member of staff and with regard to indicators that a child may be at risk of extremist views. This puts children's welfare at risk. Only one member of staff holds a paediatric first aid qualification. The provider has not

developed a contingency plan in the event that the staff member is absent from the club. This does not ensure children's safety.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Staff are warm, friendly and develop strong bonds with the children. Children enjoy their time at the club. They behave well and respond positively to the consistent boundaries. Partnerships with parents are friendly. Staff share information with parents daily.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the main hall and the conservatory. The inspector had discussions with children, parents and staff. The inspector looked at children's information records, planning documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working with children. The inspector viewed the self-evaluation information and a range of documents, including safeguarding procedures. The inspector discussed practice observed with the manager.
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. Staff do not demonstrate a sound understanding of their role in child protection. They are not fully aware of the policies and procedures to follow if they have concerns about a child's welfare. The provider and staff are unclear of the action to take should they have a safeguarding concern about a member of staff. The provider does not meet her responsibility to follow safe recruitment and vetting procedures. She does not gain sufficient information from past employers or ensure that new staff complete the necessary suitability checks, such as a new Disclosure and Barring Service check. This means that she does not know if all staff are suitable to fulfil their roles. The provider and staff are unaware of the need to disclose any information that may affect their suitability to work with children. As a result, children's safety and well-being are at risk. Although the

provider carries out supervision, it is not effective and does not help staff to keep up to date with relevant changes, particularly around safeguarding children.
p.4
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children take responsibility for hanging up their belongings and they see to their own personal needs. Staff organise the environment well and children are interested in the resources. Children make their own choices from a range of activities planned around their abilities and interests. Children enjoy their time at the club. Staff support children's communication and language skills well. Staff encourage conversations and ask children questions to prompt them to share their thoughts and ideas. Children show good imaginative skills as they enjoy the role play area. For example, they have fun pretending to be in a hair salon where they do each other's hair and make appointments for their friends.
p.4
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Weaknesses in safeguarding mean children's safety and welfare are at risk. Currently, just one member of staff holds a valid paediatric first aid qualification. If this staff member is not working there are no measures in place to ensure that a qualified first aider is on site. The deputy has a 'First aid at Work' certificate, but this does not fulfil the requirement. Staff work well together and are good role models. They treat children with kindness and respect. Children behave well. They participate in creating rules for the club and learn to use good manners, share and take turns. Children follow suitable hygiene practices and enjoy nutritious snacks. Staff plan a range of activities for children to learn about different cultures, festivals and the world around them. Children's art work is displayed. They eagerly show visitors their creations and take pride in these.
