This provision is good
The childminder provides a wide range of toys and resources, in the indoor and outdoor setting that interest and motivate children's play and learning. The childminder places a good focus on promoting children's mathematical skills. Children develop good skills in solving problems and using mathematics purposefully in their play. The childminder uses her calm and reassuring manner to help younger children settle happily into her welcoming environment. All children develop secure relationships with the childminder which support their emotional well-being effectively. Children learn how to manage tasks independently and gain confidence in their own abilities. These skills help to prepare older children for their move to school. The childminder understands the importance of continuing to improve her practice and skills. She undertakes regular training to build on her knowledge and uses what she

knows to improve her setting. Outcomes for children are good.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has established relationships with other settings that children attend, but does not share information to build consistency in children's care and learning. The childminder does not always gain a great deal of information about children's current abilities, to identify their starting points and plan more precisely for future learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector toured the parts of the childminder's home that children use. The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided in writing, on the day of the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant, looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder follows robust policies and procedures to keep children safe. She has a good understanding of the action she would take if she had concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has a positive approach to improving her practice. She completes regular training to update her knowledge and skills and meets with other childminders to share good practice. She monitors the skills and knowledge of her assistant. She uses self-evaluation well, gaining the views of parents and children, and checking the quality of her setting to guide improvement. For example, she has improved the outside play space for those children who prefer to learn outdoors.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is highly qualified and used her good knowledge and experience to provide a range of activities that consistently motivates children's play. The childminder uses good opportunities to build on children's knowledge through good-quality teaching. For example, older children enjoy finding hidden numbers in the sand tray, and learn how to put them in sequential order. The childminder uses her observations and assessments of children's learning to monitor children's progress effectively. She is able to identify when children do not make as much progress as expected and puts additional support in place to ensure progress is ongoing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and enjoy their play and learning. They benefit from the childminder's positive approach to teaching them about positive behaviour. Children are kind and courteous. They take turns and share resources, learning to value the needs of others well. The childminder promotes children's independence well. She encourages them to learn how to do things for themselves. For example, children confidently choose and cut up their fruit snacks and pour their own drinks. The childminder regularly praises children's achievements, building their self-esteem and confidence. Children thoroughly enjoy being physically active outside. The childminder plans a variety of opportunities for children to gain fresh air and exercise, using her local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Overall, all children make good progress in their learning and development. Children learn how to concentrate and remain focused on tasks for long periods, considering their ages. They show perseverance and determination in activities. They gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning, such as going to school. For example, children develop early reading skills and can match some letters and sounds. Children show an interest in learning about the wider world, which promotes discussion, to enable children to share their thoughts and ideas.
