This provision is good

 The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents. She keeps them fully informed about their children's continuing progress and welfare. They share information and agree the next steps in children's learning. The childminder considers their views on her practice as part of her self-evaluation process.  Children are confident in the care of this kind and considerate childminder. They learn to play and explore happily, in a safe and secure environment.  The childminder understands children's starting points and skills, and uses this information to plan challenging activities. All children make good progress in their learning and development.  Children's personal and emotional development is progressing exceptionally well. The childminder knows and respects their individual needs, which she meets highly effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not give children enough time to consider their thoughts and use their words, for example, when responding to her questions.  The childminder does not recognise all occasions to inspire children to explore their early reading skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 continue to support children to use their thoughts and language so they learn to express and form their own conclusions  develop further the opportunities and encouragement for children to explore early reading.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the systems she uses to observe and record children's progress, and the documents to support her work.  The inspector completed observations of the children as they engaged in activities with the childminder.  The inspector looked at the rooms and resources the children use.  The inspector discussed how the childminder has met the actions and recommendations set at the last inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder seeks relevant training opportunities, including on child protection issues. She is able to describe the signs and symptoms that may raise cause for concern, and she understands her responsibility in reporting these. The childminder is eager to enhance her childcare practice continually, which has a positive impact on improving children's outcomes for the future. For example, she has successfully met the actions and recommendations set at the last inspection. Children are cared for in a home where all adults have suitability checks and the childminder has completed relevant paediatric first aid training. The childminder observes and monitors children's progress. She uses this knowledge to ensure that activities and resources challenge children and to help them make progress in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children involve themselves fully in their play and learning. They enjoy using the outdoor area, such as when watering the plants they are growing. The childminder extends this activity well; she talks to the children about safety, including how to use the stepping stones carefully in the garden. The childminder helps children to develop physically. They have great fun bouncing on the trampoline, while laughing as they jump as high as they can. Children learn about ways to keep safe, for instance, that they need to close the net around the apparatus to avoid falling. Children enjoy using their imagination. For example, they create meals for each other with dried pasta. There is lots of laughter when they tip all the pasta out and carefully help each other to pick it up, while talking about their favourite foods.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder knows the children well. She understands and respects their individual needs. She offers thoughtful care to children who are feeling less sure of themselves and is sensitive to their needs. The childminder's thorough knowledge of children enables her to manage their behaviour in a sensitive way. Children behave well and the childminder helps them to understand how their actions can affect others. For example, she talks to them about using the trampoline appropriately to avoid hurting others. The childminder appreciates children's achievements and offers high levels of praise, helping them to feel confident in their own abilities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress, especially in their understanding of the world around them. They understand the importance of caring for living things, such as watering plants to help them grow. Children are good friends and enjoy playing together; they respect others and understand the importance of showing kindness.
