This provision is good
The childminder has addressed the actions and recommendations set at the previous inspection. She uses robust policies and procedures to promote children's welfare effectively. Outcomes for children are good. All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder engages children in interesting activities so that they remain focused and motivated in their learning. Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model and talks to children about appropriate boundaries and the rules of the setting. The childminder uses her good relationships with parents to share information about children's learning. This two-way flow of information promotes children's learning at home effectively. The childminder undertakes a wide variety of training to build on her knowledge and skills. For example, she has gained a level 3 early years qualification since the previous inspection, to build on the good-quality teaching she provides for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the best use of all opportunities to build children's mathematical knowledge. The childminder has not fully considered how to extend children's understanding and use of technology.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen opportunities to build on children's mathematical knowledge, particularly in relation to shape, space and measurement provide more chances for children to learn about and use technology.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her assistant, looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process. The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided by the childminder, on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have recently completed additional training to update their knowledge of how to keep children safe. They know what action they would take if they had concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses self-evaluation well. She checks the quality of her setting and monitors her assistant's knowledge and skills well. She gains the views of parents and children to guide improvement. This has a positive impact on her setting. For instance, she has recently changed the outside play area, so that children who prefer to learn outdoors can use this all year round. Parents speak positively about the childminder. They say that she is caring and they value the information she shares about their children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes good use of interesting resources to develop children's learning. She builds children's self-esteem and confidence so that children are motivated to try new activities. For example, children use tweezers to move pom-poms, learning about new colours as the childminder supports them well. The childminder uses good opportunities to build on children's communication and language skills. She introduces new words into her conversations and builds on children's confident speaking skills. The childminder makes regular assessments of children's learning. She regularly checks the progress that they make, to plan for their future development effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and relaxed in the childminder's care. They develop secure relationships with the childminder who is kind and attentive to their individual needs, which supports their emotional well-being. The childminder promotes children's independence skills throughout the daily routines. Children gain skills that prepare them well for their future learning. The childminder teaches children about how to keep themselves safe. For example, she explains about how to sit on chairs, to avoid any potential risk and maintain their physical well-being. Children enjoy opportunities to learn about the wider community. For instance, they attend local toddler groups and dance classes where they meet other children and build friendships.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy learning and make good progress in their development. They gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning. For instance, they develop good physical coordination skills as they learn to thread beads. Overall, they are confident in using resources and develop good thinking skills as they learn to solve problems. Children learn how to be independent. For example, when choosing and preparing their snacks and putting on their shoes to go outside in the garden to play.
