Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Good 2

Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children Good 2

p.1

This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

 The childminder has not made sure that she has clear information about who has parental responsibility for each child in her care.  The programme for the assistants' professional development does not focus enough on raising the good quality of teaching further, to help children achieve rapid progress in their learning.  The childminder does not always help children to be as independent as possible. At times, she does things for the children that they are capable of doing for themselves.  Self-evaluation is not rigorous enough to identify and address all weaknesses in practice to raise the quality of the provision to a consistently good level.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 Children are welcomed into the childminder's home. They have developed strong friendships with others and have secure emotional attachments to the adults. They involve the adults in their conversations and willingly share resources with each other. This successfully contributes to children's emotional well-being.  The childminder ask parents what they know their child can do and uses their observations to help her plan a wide range of interesting and fun activities that meets their individual needs. Children are making good progress in readiness for school.  There is a good flow of information between parents and the childminder about each child's day. The childminder share information with parents about children's learning, which keeps them informed of their child's progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage the provider must:

p.2

Due Date

 make sure relevant information is gained about who has parental responsibly for children. 15/07/2016

p.2

Due Date

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Due Date

 give children more opportunities to use and build on their independence skills  focus the programme of professional development for assistants more sharply on raising the quality of teaching further  strengthen the process of self-evaluation so that areas of the provision that need improvement are quickly identified and targeted in order to raise the quality of the provision overall.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed teaching activities and the impact these have on children's learning. She carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a sample of procedures and children's records and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation.  The inspector spoke with all the adults working in the setting and with the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents as expressed through their comments in response to questionnaires.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement

The childminder has made some significant improvements since her last inspection, including making sure that all parents receive the required information about her setting. However, she has not gained all the required information from parents. The childminder works well with her assistants and monitors their practice through effective systems of supervision. She has attended all mandatory training and encourages her assistants to do the same so that they are aware of changes in legislation. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All the adults working in the setting are knowledgeable about procedures to follow to protect children from harm. They carry out regular checks of the premises so that potential risks are minimised. This helps to promote children's safety.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children make choices from a wide variety of well-planned activities that meets their individual needs and interests. Adults join in as children play and follow their instructions. They skilfully challenge children to think and find solutions to their own questions. For example, as older children build constructions with plastic bricks, they are encouraged to think about the design and shape and to match the pieces so the castle is steady. Children learn effectively that at times they have to negotiate and cooperate when they work as a group. Young children have lots of opportunities to hear and repeat new words, both in English and in their home language. They develop the confidence to share their views with others. Children have lots of opportunities to explore and investigate different textures, such as water and bubble wrap. Good relationships with staff in other early years settings children attend help to ensure that information about children's progress is shared and

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

The childminder has not gained clear information from parents about who has parental responsibility for each child in her care. This means that she is not always aware of the people who have a right to take part in making decisions about children's care and learning. Children show empathy and display good manners. They learn about good hygiene and know how to wash their hands so they are clean. Children develop good attitudes towards leading healthy lifestyles. They enjoy playing outside in the fresh air and being physically active. Meals provided are healthy and nutritious.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points and gain key skills in preparation for their future learning. They are excited and motivated to learn and make independent choices in their play. Children are confident communicators and have good social skills. They confidently share their views with others and include other children and adults in their play. They are imaginative and creative when they engage in role play, pretending to be dinosaurs.
